lost my phone service - January 9th 2018, 12:26 AM

Hey folks,

My phone service got cut off. Without going into too much detail into how and why, let's just say that this phone is under my father's name and is a free government phone.
It got cut off December 31, 2017 quite suddenly and unexpectedly. I didnt have a chance to warn anyone. Right now I am using the day treatment program's office number with my recovery specialist's extension number for any important phone calls. But other than that, I havent figured out a way to contact people and let them know. Is there a way to leave one voice message on the answering machine even though I dont have service anymore? I dont remember everyone I gave my number out to such as doctors, or organizations. I wish there was a way for me to leave a message for anyone who tries calling. Is this wishful thinking or is there a way to do this?

If I get a new phone I probably wont have the same phone number. Is there a way to keep the phone number? What are my options?

I cannot address everything that you asked but I will try and look into it more and see if I can come up with something.

I know that most phone companies allow people to keep their previous phone number. I am not 100% how that works and since you have a government phone I do not know what their rules are pertaining to that. Would it be possible for you to call them and get some information about that?

As for your contacts, I know that there are some smartphones that save the numbers in a few different areas and I know that those that come with a sim card (ATT) have the option to save numbers to both the sim and phone. I am not sure if you have a sim card though.

If you were unable to save your contacts you could probably try and let people know via facebook. If you don't have all your contacts on facebook that could be an issue but it is one of the ways my dad was able to retrieve numbers after losing his phone.

Best regards and hopefully someone else has more information or I can find it at a later date!

my phone did syncrozize with facebook information so that all the people on my facebook who'd left a number on their profile were then on my contact list. Clearly not everyone was happy about me using their number, but in your case it might be helpful to recovering a lot of what was lost

p.s i know it's been 2 or 3 weeks so you might have worked it out already

I am working on applying for a new one and hopefully will be successful in that. So for now, I am getting through, even though it's been crazy hard not having a phone. I can't even apply for jobs because it requires providing at least one phone number. I have a google voice number and I am using it temporarily when possible.

Thank you for your replies.
