Social media blackout. -

I'm wondering if anyone on here has made an attempt at a social media blackout.
This means disabiling/deactivating your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. account for non-dramatic reasons. Like, not as a statement to say "well, nobody would notice or care if I...!" but more like a "I need to take a step back from social media because it's being very toxic to my well-being right now." sort of thing.
It's frustrating, because I need a break from social media. Not because I use it excessively; on the contrary, I rarely ever use it unless it's for work or to message the only two people I communicate with on there. Everyone else I have, I never communicate with in any form. If it were possible, and I don't think it is, I would only have five or six people total on my Facebook account.
I don't know, just wondering if anyone ever tried a social media blackout.

I tried, but I did not succeed - I just became dependent on them, because most of my friends are at a great distance from me, but I want to have a connection with them.

My friend deactivated her Facebook profile because she couldn't deal with the stuff that people posted as she felt they were bragging and it was the same stuff over and over. She kept messenger though to keep in touch. She felt loads better doing this and while she has since created another profile, it's much smaller and cultivated

Actually, I don't have the cell phone numbers for all of my friends and even if I did, some of them live in other countries making texting hard if not all of them have an international texting plan.
I am of the persuasion that if you don't want to use it, then don't. For example, you can have Facebook messenger on your phone but not the Facebook app. You can do most of your messaging through there and through texting.

I haven't, mostly because doing so doesn't really interest me. If I don't want to read the toxicity on Facebook, I simply just block those who produce such comments. Or hide posts I simply don't want to see. By controlling this, I can still enjoy my time using the platform, without the fear of seeing twaddle some people spew.
The only time I would really care to stop using it is if it's required by a job position. I'm quite happy to live without social media entirely if need be. There are other ways of communication if I really need to talk with people.

See, that's the thing. Facebook doesn't interest me. If I had my way, I would only keep 2-5 people on my Friends list, and I don't think that's actually allowed! Facebook would probably flag the profile as being sketchy or fake or a bot.
I deactivated my Facebook account this morning, but kept Messenger as someone upthread suggested. However, I do need Facebook for work which really stinks. I could do without Facebook and the knowledge that I have next to zero social life in comparison to others on my news feed.

Have you considered having two Facebook accounts? One for work, and one for other things?
While it may seem like Facebook will think you having just 2-5 friends on your friends list is suspicious, realistically it's quite the opposite. Scammers and fake accounts with bots tend to try and get as many an audience as possible by adding a sizeable amount of people in order to try and succeed at baiting at least one person. The bigger the friends list, the more chance of success.

It's true that social media might be toxic and I myself gave up using FB at all and I run only a business instagram account. I spent a lot of money to promote it with https://socialfollowers.me/services/...ram-followers/ and I just don't want to throw it away.
