Here's a 'quick fix' that will often resolve these small errors.
if you're on vista, click on the start menu icon, and in the bar type in 'cmd' and wait for the search results to display. Right click on the program it finds and click on 'Run as Administrator'. A black field should come up, and in it type 'ipconfig' /flushdns.

That site is working fine for most users. If the Flush dns doesn't work your ISP might have problems, and usually trying again a little later is advisable.

Refresh, if that doesn't work, close the page, and reopen. Sorry, I don't know much about computers. :P

Supernoodles had it. Sometimes my ISP gets a little wonky and I have website issues. Check again in an hour or so, and if it's still having problems, maybe call your ISP?

I'd sing you a song, but I'm feeling quite off
in my heart; it's occupied,

Re: BME? - May 30th 2009, 09:59 AM

I've been going back to it loads and its never working, saying the website cannot be found.
I've done the cmd thing and I'll give it a shot now.

Still not working, I've tried refreshing on both firefox and windows explorer, but its still telling me that the link appears to be broken.

Also, when using google or yahoo, the results dont take me to the result. If I click on it first time, it takes me to either myspace, ebay or another rubbish search engine. It usually works on second try but I'm getting well annoyed with it.
Anyone know what it is?

Can you just check your HOSTS file please? It seems unlikely, but the search engine thing seems like spyware or a browser hijack. I'd seriously recommend not using any of the sites it redirects you to as they are likely to be phishing sites.

To check your HOSTS file:
  1. Open Notepad (As administrator in Vista/Win 7)
  2. File > Open
  3. Browse to: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\
  4. The folder should appear empty. At the bottom, there is a dropdown tool that should say "Text Documents (*.txt)". Click that and select "All Files"
  5. Open the file called HOSTS
Can you copy paste all of that file here please? Don't forget to use the quote tags, to make it easier to read.

Also - run an antivirus and antispyware program as soon as possible. If you already have them installed, make sure they're fully updated, run Windows Update too, and run a full scan with maximum thouroughness.
If you don't have any installed, check this thread for software.

Re: BME? - May 30th 2009, 04:26 PM

I wouldn't go messing with the Hosts file, however most servers will deny a request from a known malicious DNS server.

If you have a another computer try it on that, also scan your pc with a anti-spyware program. Sometimes some spy will change your router dns settings and then every website will deny you access.

Check if you can check for updates with Windows Update if you can't it's almost certain you have some spyware.
