Windows Movie Maker Help - May 29th 2009, 05:52 PM

Hey guys.
So every time I try to open up Windows Movie Maker, it will open for all of ten seconds before I get an error message that says "Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close" and it crashes. I've got no idea why it's doing this. I tried putting together a video for a college project a couple of weeks ago and it worked, but then it got to a point when it would freeze before the end of the video and say there wasn't enough memory (I was saving it onto my external hard drive, there was plenty of room). Since then the programme won't open and the WMM project wouldn't work on any computer (be it at college or at home).

I've looked around online and can't work out what's wrong., has anyone had this problem before? Do you know what to do about it?
Any help would be brilliant because it's doing my head in! Thanks in advance

Hm, can you type out the exact error message it gives you when it crashes on both occasions? (A screenshot would be better)
From what you've said there though, I'm guessing that your WMM has become corrupt somehow or another.
Here's a download link that will allow you to download it again from Microsoft's website. If vista isn't your operating system, then type in "windows xp movie maker download" into the top bar and it should come up =)

It's just the standard error message you get on windows when it says the programme isn't responding and you can send an error report. Thanks for the link. I have XP but nothing came up when I searched...it just told me to download updates for it I had to have an automatic download checker thing turned on which I have :/

Ah, I see.
After a wee bit of hunting around, I found this which should be what you're looking for =)

Can I just that giving someone a link to a piece of software off an unauthorised website is really dangerous. If you go to: Official Microsoft Release
You can get the official Microsoft version.

I'm assuming that the OP has basic anti-viral/anti-spyware software, plus what the OP needs is a reinstall which windows update won't provide, and that's the only solution available from Microsoft themselves.

There is a link which I posted which will give the Windows XP version as well as the Vista version of Movie Maker. It sounds like a conflict problem to rather than spyware/virus. Reinstalling the program may refresh the registry installation.

That's why I gave a link to an installation of Movie Maker rather than your link which simply gives instructions on how to use Windows Update to acquire Movie Maker, rather than reinstall it.
