Itunes/Limewire and Laptop - June 11th 2009, 11:50 AM

Ok so here's the short story, PC=used for music Laptop= everything else

I'm however getting sick of how old the PC is and how long it takes to get music. SO, I am wondering if I download Limewire and itunes, will my laptop slow down? i want my laptop to remain at the speed it is, but i dont want to put it at risk by downloading those programs. My friends all have their music on their laptops and to me it seems way easier but my luck with computers is terrible so im extremly careful with my laptop.

ALSO, how can i transfer all the music on my ipod, onto this laptop if i do decide to do it?

an actual answer would be amazing and i'll love whoever does it haha

Laura is correct, downloading music from Limewire is illegal, as well as unsafe.

From the ToS:

Limewire is also full of viruses, which could slow down your computer if you don't have sufficient antivirus protection. There's some nasty stuff on there, so be careful.

I'd sing you a song, but I'm feeling quite off
in my heart; it's occupied,

and now's not the time.

There's a whole load of software floating about on the internet that will optimise your computer however much is possible.

I have to point out, limewire is just a piece of software, it's the actual downloading of copyrighted files that's illegal.

Even if you're using the P2P software for completely legal purposes, there's easily better ways to go about it, since as Steph said, limewires full of viruses masquerading as 'harmless' files and some of them really are nasty.

Check out this thread for a list of useful software, some of which can help speed up your computer.
Regular anti-viral scans and anti-spyware scans can also help keep your computer nice and efficient.

Thats why I said the "copyrighted files"

Anyway, CD's are quite cheap nowadays, and it doesn't cost a lot to buy the music, so I'd recommend just doing that instead.
