Sounds to me like the battery is borked, this can happen when batteries are not power cycled (charged, then ran down till your phone turns off.)

The options are: 1. buy a new battery, 2. Use it while it is plugged in, 3. swap the sims so you can use the sim in your dying phone in your new one.

My old phone would just switch itself off and then it took ages to turn back on again. It was a problem with the battery. I just got myself a new phone in the end as that phone was like 3 years old anyway. I would buy a new battery, i think you can get them cheaply(from markets anyway), or buy a new phone - they have some good cheap deals out lately.

Yeah, that's not a great idea. You definitely get what you pay for.

I once bought an old cell phone off of my Sprint rep at work (a friend of his had an old one they were selling, and I wanted to replace a crappy defective phone I had). The battery it came with was incredibly weak. So I hopped on eBay and picked up one of those cheap batteries you mentioned.

Within less than two weeks (even with proper charging and power cycling practices), the battery was just as weak as the old battery. Plus, the paint was even already starting to fade off of it.
