Will this RAM work with my loptop? - July 26th 2009, 10:35 PM

Hey

So I have a laptop with 2gb of RAM, which I'd like to improve.

I found 2gb on Play.com for 16.99, which seems like a pretty good price to me.

But I'm unsure as to whether it would run with my laptop?

Not sure what specs to give, so here's a few, as much as I could find out

Laptop:

Packard Bell Easynote_MH36-V-220

Intel Celeron Dual core processor T1600
2GB DDR2
160GB HD

And the rest is about networks, the screen and the battery.

This is the memory I am looking at:

EDIT: Epic fail, I spelt laptop wrong. Could a mod change please? haha

Lol This will work in your loptop

Yeah, you got it right on therem its the right speed and right for your laptops motherboard. The only thing you have to be careful of is that pakardbell are idiots the will put 2-4 512 MB sticks in your laptop insted of just putting 2 1GB ones.

So, if you do buy this stick and realise you wont have 4GB, maybe 2GB or 3.5 depending on how many slots you have and how stupid pakard bell was. But since its a laptop ( ive never worked with one before ) You might have two 1GB sticks in there.. meaning You will have 3GB ram because the one you brought is 2GB and the one thats still in there is 1GB.. Still with me?

I checked on google and on kingston.com and checked your laptop to see if it will work with their ram sticks and it says yes , the tricky thing is putting them in. Follow a guide online or ask someone you know who knows computers

Good luck. Really good price aswell!! Might get a few myself x

Mike, where did you find the supported RAM speeds and the motherboard info? I had a look around, but the information I found via HP's site and stores selling the laptop was vague - just stated DDR2, but not the actual speed.

Also, I double checked on Kingston's site and found that the MH36-V220 is not in their product list [here]. The V200 is there though.

Deedlit, before you rush out and buy it, I'd recommend using a program to check the exact details to make sure it's compatible. CPU-Z is a program that will allow you to take a look at that info and post it here.
Once you have it, could you take a screenshot of the RAM slots info. Also, go through each slot and check how many of them are empty.

That will show the exact supported RAM speeds and how many slots you have free. If you don't have any free slots, you'll have to take out a stick to replace it with.

Thanks for the replies

There's the screenshot you wanted Adzie

So the max amount of RAM I can have isn't 4 like I'd hoped? =(

Yeah I think it says I have 2 1gb sticks? (I on;y just looked at the screenshot myself lol)

Okay, you have two slots, both with 1GB sticks in them.
Just for the record, CPU-Z says that the RAM speed is 333MHz (PC2-5300), whereas the one on Play says it's 667MHz. That's alright - you have DDR2, which doubles it. Simply put - that RAM will be fine.

As for your maximum RAM, the only way you can get 4GB is if you replace both sticks with new ones from Play. As it stands though, if you buy one 2GB stick, you'll have to remove one before you can put the new one in.
That will leave you with 3GB of RAM, which is perfect. I'm assuming you have a 32-bit version of Windows, and that can't use more than 3GB anyway. 4GB is only beneficial if you have 64-bit Windows.
