Talking iPhone apps? - December 13th 2009, 12:11 AM

Ok... I'm a newbie to the whole iPhone apps thing - there seem to be millions, so was wondering if any avid apple munchers could advise me on what's worth getting and what's not? Before you ask - yes, I have also googled this and looked on the apple store - I just wanted any personal opinions from the delightful virtual world of TH.

Oh, and I'm not interested in anything to do with social networking

Cheers.

Do you want functionality or games?

TFLN, FML, etc are amazing. :P
I enjoy Bejeweled, so I have that.
Pandora is awesome, especially if you have the iPhone with Data plan.
Tap Tap is always a need.
Paper Toss is popular too..

But yeah - I always go for the free ones. :P

I suppose functionality > games, although yes Taptap looks quite fun!

And like you say, free > paid if possible.

Another thing - is there an open office equivalent for iphone?

Well, do you need your iPhone to do anything it doesn't do? If yes look for an app to do it. If not leave it alone.

You seem to have completely missed the point of my question(s) and whether intentional or not, sound very patronising. I am simply asking for any recommendations of apps that other people have found particularly useful rather than someone to come along and state the obvious...

I'm sorry if it sounds patronising I just find it's best to leave stuff you don't need. I've many a time had to restore PC's that have grinded to a halt because too many necessary programs have been added...

Isn't there a limit to the number of apps you can install at once (200?) for that reason. You don't think Apple would actually leave any opening for us poor, helpless, ignorant consumers to break our phones, do you? =P

On Topic:

I don't have one, but my brother does. Pandora is a really good app for music, Slacker Radio is good too. Quickoffice allows you to edit Office docs. Pocket God is a fun timewaster. Skype is good for free voice calls over Wifi. There are alot of others, but those are what come to mind immediately.

Believe me, I've seen 20 programs destroy a full-size computer

I know it's a bit late but there is a fun (and free) advent calendar one and each day gives you a link to other free apps. Might give you some ideas?
