What Kind Of Computer/Laptop Do You Have? - January 7th 2009, 02:19 PM

What kind of computer/laptop do you have?

I recently bought a Compaq Presario CQ60Z laptop, I must say it works a lot better the my Dell laptop I used to have.

I like the simplicity. It always works. Nothing ever breaks, nothing ever bugs you. You don't have to clean the spyware all the freaking time. You don't have to download antivirus updates almost every day, you don't have to run checks. You don't get viruses. I've had this MacBook for almost two years and it runs smoothly still. I haven't had a single problem with it. The only problem I have now is the battery capacity, but it has nothing to do with the Mac itself. All batteries die eventually. I was a Windows user before and just thinking about all the alerts and pop up windows and all the times something didn't work makes me shudder. Not to mention that you have to reinstall it all the time. I can honestly say that I will never go back to Windows.

I very much like the Apple design as well.

I've always saw macs as an expensive hybrid between Linux/Unix security (unsurprising since Macs are based off unix) and the simplicity - out of the box works of windows. Just beware, as macs get more popular you'll need antivirus for it

Anyway time for mine:

Motherboard - Abit IN9X wifi
RAM - 4 x 1024mb Geil DDR2, 800MHz
Processor - intel core 2 duo
GPU - nvidia geforce 8500GT - 512mb and it's own memory
Primary Hard Drive - Western Digital 640gb
Secondary & Tertiary hdd - Samsung 500gb
External hdd - Western Digital 120gb
SATA optical Drive - Optiarc
IDE optical drive- HP
onboard sound card - nvidia nforce
PCI usb ports - no idea haha
PSU - Blue Storm II - 500W
CPU fan - Zalman

custom build ftw

Yeah, but this stuff is only for geeks. I agree, though. As Macs get more popular, there will be a need for antivirus programs.

Dell Studio with Vista and 4GB RAM.

I'm actually OK with it. For once a Dell doesn't suck.

Although I hate that you can't use some Windows applications and there are some bugs with Flash and Java, I am happy with this.

Not necessarily. I remember reading somewhere that even though Windows can't address that RAM, applications like games could. Although I'm not certain about it.

As for my computers:

Laptop:
Very old Dell Latitude D600 that is really smashed up.

Desktop: Custom build -
Motherboard: XFX NForce 780i
RAM - 2x 2048mb OCZ DDR2, 800MHz
Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad q9300 (OC @ 3.375 GHz)
GPU - NVidia 9800GTX 512MB
Primary Hard Drive - Western Digital 500gb
Secondary Hard Drive - Samsung 200gb
SATA Optical Drive - Optiarc Lightscribe
Sound card - 7.1 HD Onboard Sound Card
USB ports - 10
PSU - OCZ EliteXtreme 800w
CPU fan - Zalman CNPS 9700NT

HP Pavilion dv2000 widescreen laptop. Love it, but it'll need to be replaced in a few years. Already had the motherboard fry on it. Want a MacBook next.

Pretty stupid, but I don't know what to call mine? It was originally custom made (as was my parents and grandparents) by a guy my dad knows, so it isn't really any brand.

Once this is gone, I want a macbook.

My only complaint, is that it's just over two years old and half the keys have come off the keyboard. I'd like to save up for a Mac next.

Maaaac. I love mine, it's so easy to deal with and customer service is very nice (they gave me a free charger when mine started shooting sparks for free.)

I like the design, and I'm not nerdy enough to build my own box.

Dell Inspiron 6000.

Ya know, for a Dell laptop, it doesn't suck too much. The only thing that gets on my nerves are those little pop-ups for spyware & such, but they don't happen that often. I have only had one huge problem with it, and that was from downloading and completely my own fault.

Though if I had the chance, I'd definitely get a Mac.

I don't have a computer of my own...
I usually use a Mac laptop, though, because it's the only computer I can use without people staring over my shoulder the whole time.
Otherwise, I use an eMachines PC which is old/slow and used to be my computer before my mom decided to move it out of my room.

You know, you could dual boot OS X and Windows on that, since it's one of the Intel Macs.

I have:
~G4 Titanium Powerbook DVI 15" (867 Mhz G4, 768 MB RAM, 32 MB ATI Radeon, 20 GB HD [Temporary replacement for old, dead HD until I can afford larger], Mac OS X 10.4.11). My main computer. Bought it used a couple years ago, and though I had to sink quite a bit of money into fixing it up several months back, it runs like a champ.

~G4 PowerMac "Sawtooth" (400 Mhz G4, 256 MB RAM, I believe an ATI card [Not sure on video RAM, but it has VGA and DVI outputs], 40 GB and 60 GB drives, OS X 10.2.8). Bought it quite cheap about a year ago or so as a secondary computer while my Powerbook was being used as a family computer after our PC died. Haven't run it since I fixed up the Powerbook, but at some point I'll likely set it up as temporary storage "server" for the home network.

Re: What Kind Of Computer/Laptop Do You Have? - January 11th 2009, 01:25 AM

Not around so much now that school's started

"Live a good life.
If there are gods and they are just,
then they will not care how devout you have been,
but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by.
If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them.
If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life
that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
