Nintendo DSi XL!

I am VERY excited for this new Nintendo DS! I've still only got the Original Nintendo DS, so I think it's definitely time for an upgrade!

It's out on Friday (5th March) in the UK and the 28th(?) March in the US.

It's an upgrade to the recently released Nintendo DSi, which has two cameras, a sleeker design and better internet capabilities. The DSi XL has not just bigger screens, but two 93% bigger screens! Which therefore means a bigger console. If you've not seen any pictures of them yet, they're gorgeous!

At the moment, they're only available in a Wine Red and Dark Bronze colours. But if you're in Japan, or don't mind an imported DSi XL from Japan, you can also get it in white! As the DSi XL has been out in Japan since late last year.

Has anyone seen them yet? Has anyone pre-ordered one? What colour have you chosen? Or if you're a Nintendo DS user, why won't you be getting one? And what is everyone's opinions on the new Nintendo DSi XL?

we've gone years making things smaller and more compact, i'm not sure why their making them bigger again :P

It's been said that they're going for the more 'Social Gaming' approach. Because people like to peer over peoples' shoulders when they're playing, so the bigger screen, and wide angled viewing makes it easier to do so.

It sounds like I'm trying to sell this thing :P

lol yeah, although they're just merging things. I dont' need a camera on a games console etc...We've been trying to make things easier to carry about etc. since they are meant to be portable. I just don't get the whole "bigger" console...

I think it's to target the more 'older' audience. The larger screen means larger font. Therefore the old buggers can see the screen more!

There's no hardware update compared to the DSi, apart from the larger screen. So if you want ultra-portable, get the DSi. But if you're not going to go out too much with it, and the bigger screen would be better for you, then the DSi XL would suit you better.

Depends what you want really!

I'm still stuck with the original Nintendo DS too =)) it looks like a brick compared to the new ones. Eh, I doubt I'll get one. It will probably look nicer than mine and will probably come with more things but I'm happy enough with the old DS. As long as I can play DS games and GBA games all is well. I broke my Game Boy Advance SP and can't find my original Game Boy Advance (even if I could I wouldn't like playing them on that, I can't deal with no front light) so I use my DS to play GBA games too. I never understood why the DSi didn't have a GBA slot :/ I don't get the whole "lets add a camera on everything!" thing that has been going on these past few years either. I don't really want/need a camera on my DS. They'll have cameras on toothbruses before long >.>

I'm quite fond on the cameras, I suppose it's a rather fun addition to the console. I'm not too bummed about the lack of GBA slot, as I don't have any GBA games, apart from one that I aquired from somewhere. I think it's a decent upgrade from my Original DS. Better lit screens, more stylish design of the console and obviously, as the point of the XL, bigger screens!

I'm really excited to get one. But first I need the money! I'm going to wait around a bit to see if they release a White one in the UK so it matches all of my other tech.

In my opinion the Nintendo DSi XL is to the Nintendo as the iPad is to the iPod touch. That's is to say just larger, less useful copies.
The intention of Nintendo DS's is to be a portable game console, if it's too big than it's not good for one of it's primary purposes. I mean, when you have a giant one it's not really as portable is it? AND it costs more.

Seeing as though I only have the original, any newer one would be better than the one I've got. But if I had to choose from a smaller screen to a larger one, I'd pick the larger screened one to purchase.

If you only have the original, it's good to upgrade. Otherwise, lite to dsi is an okay move, I suppose.. but dsi to dsi xl.. which some people will do, would be weird.

So the already crap pixelated and stretched graphics will now be stretched even further, and the thing's edges now look weird? For extra price? It's a winner! -_-

Nintendo must have realised the iPhone/iPod Touch is better in basically every possible way

The Nintendo DSi did only come out last year. And the Nintendo DSi XL is the same hardware, except the screen is much bigger. And a little extra features.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. It's become so mainstream, everyone can just go out and buy a DSi and just play a little game (which cost them £30).
