Fake Or Real? - March 30th 2010, 09:03 PM

I changed my passwords recently, not to MSN but the password on here and on FB, just be be on the safe side, though I never really know if anyone even knew my passwords before then.
But recently today I got this pop-up, you know hwo the window on your computer looks where it shows you your documents folder and your computer icons and stuf? Well that pops up saying, "YOU HAVE A VIRUS! Scan your computer now! Trojan is attempting to steal your passwords!"
I don't believe it, I have had pop-ups like that before and they were just cookies after I scanned and removed them, nothing important really. I'm thinking this pop-up is just fake. Do any of you get it? Is it anything to worry about, or is it real and dangerous?

I think it is fake. The only time you should pay attention to something on your computer telling you about viruses, it when you have something that you installed on your computer that does a scan, like Webroot.

You have to be careful with that because my mom's husband got one of those and he clicked on it and it was a virus. When you do get that on your screen, make sure you just click out of it and run a virus scan.

This happened to me before.
My dad works on computers for a living and when I showed it to him he said to press alt+f4 when this pops up, don't click anything, it could be dangerous.
It is fake, just get rid of it when it pops up.
It should eventually stop.

Love you-- Kayla c:

Do not even click the window. Go down to the windows start menu toolbar, where the window is tabbed, and right click there instead, and select close.

You can also do Alt + F4 to terminate the program (same as closing)
Both will be a lot safer than clicking "X" on the window of the pop-up, since some programs detect for that kind of thing, and activate when you do so.

Don't click it. Also, if you're using Internet Explorer, this'll be common. Consider changing browser

Firefox is my personal favourite, but others prefer other browsers *shrugs*

In either case, I'm closing this thread now since the question has been answered.
