texting using T-9 - April 6th 2010, 02:31 AM

Does anyone text using T-9?
Any SIMPLE ways to explain?
Is it faster for you?

I tried learning, but it failed.

Just wondering how many people find this easy.

Re: texting using T-9 - April 6th 2010, 03:32 AM

I do whenever I only have one hand to text with (I have a keyboard thingy I usually use, but sometimes it's inconvenient if I'm laying on my side or something ). Pretty much, you press the button for which ever letter you want one time (whether it's the 'C' key on the 'ABC' button or the 'A' key) and then do the same with the other letters of the word and it takes all the possible letter combinations and guesses what word you mean.

For example, if you want to text "I am really hungry," you would do the following:
If your phone is set up like this--
1_,@ 2abc 3def
4ghi 5jkl 6mno
7pqrs 8tuv 9wxyz

You would type: 4 26 732559 4864279 (I mean the 4 key and the 2 key, don't literally type in the numbers ). I have no idea if this makes sense. If you don't understand, just say

"Love me for me, accept the fact I'm true, live like I want, fufill my dreams,
Dream of me, run out free, capture your words and never let them go."

I'll see you on the other side.

The only person I know who can use it is my ex boyfriend. It confuses me

Re: texting using T-9 - April 6th 2010, 09:54 AM

I use it. At first, I didn't know how to use it and it took me longer to send a text but after a while I got the hang of it and now it takes me half the time to send a text.

It's pretty simple though, you just use it in a keyboard type way, you press the buttons to spell out the word you want and it'll come up in the little menu for you with a few other options. It saves having to do each letter separately.

I use T9 and love it I use it all the time, just hit the key once instead of several times.

It's pretty simple, tbh minuscule QWERTY keyboards are the real pain - hitting the wrong key because you're typing at angle, which you have to to actually see the screen...

Re: texting using T-9 - April 16th 2010, 06:07 PM

Once you learn and get the hang of T9 it's so much easier. I mostly use T9 but my phone has a keyboard too, so I use that sometimes. T9 isn't for people with bad grammar, they'd just get frustrated with it I imagine. Cause words won't show up if you can't spell them right, etc. And some words you just have to save into your phone so after a while it becomes so much quicker then any other way.

When all your friends have come and gone,
And the sun no longer shines,
And the happiness for which you long is washed away like an ocean's tide,
When all the hard times outweigh the good,
And all your words are misunderstood,
When the day seems lost from the start
You must follow your heart,
You must follow your heart.

Re: texting using T-9 - April 18th 2010, 04:59 PM

I switched over to T9 for a wee bit, learned it easy enough, but I eventually realised that I use too much punctuation for it to be efficient, since I have to stop and hold down a certain key to access stuff like apostrophes and even commas, that it just ends up feeling like even more of a drag. I mean, I think on average, it takes less time than the usual method, but it's something that takes that wee bit more concentration, and I'm far too lazy to regularly dedicate such attention to such a thing. And then you get the rather annoying situation when a word isn't in a dictionary -_-;;

Re: texting using T-9 - April 18th 2010, 05:35 PM

I've been texting for seven years and have never used T9... I just find it annoys me, plus I have loads of weird little words and weird spellings for things, so it would take aaaaages to get them all into the dictionary. My thumbs probably aren't in great shape though :/

I used it when I had a touch screen phone because it was faster but now I have a qwerty keypad I can text fast enough without having to use it.

I hate using it when I have buttons to use because it doesn't really recognise words I want to say

Eek. T9. I've tried to use it, but I couldn't figure it out. And I'm too lazy to try to anyway. Even though I've heard that it's quicker if you do use it. I don't know. I'm just used to the way I text now with my QWERTY keyboard on my phone. I'm fast at that. xD

I used too, as did my brother, for some reason I stopped, but he carried on and got seriously fast at it, with some phones it becomes 'intelligent' and realizes your most used words...

I'm now using a blackberry, and its a beast haha never had anything soo comfortable to type on!

Re: texting using T-9 - April 19th 2010, 02:25 AM

With my phone (HTC Hero) it uses the t9 function automatically. I used to absolutely HATE it but since getting my new phone it's so so so much easier. This is because it's recognised my most frequently used words! But I think that It just takes a lot of time and practice to get it right <3
