Mine's jailbroken, but not by me which is a bit of a minefield...

You really need to have a reason to jailbreak it, the vast majority of users don't have any use for it. Also upgrading it afterwards is precarious - I haven't even tried it yet. However if you really need to do it, you shouldn't need to be encouraged in the first place....

[I'm tired btw, apologies for the odd use of language]

I wouldn't. iPhone OS 4.0 is coming up this summer, and after that there's very little reason to jailbreak, save for Cydia and custom icons. But if you want to, it's very simple.

I wouldn't recommend you. I jailbroke my first itouch and it turned really slow and the apps were the same as if I hadn’t jailbroken it. Now my new itouch I didn’t and it’s fine I didn’t jailbreak it and you can still get free apps or usually they are not that expensive.

It's good that you work for Apple and know that OS 4.0 will fix all the problems with the iPhone. I was sure wondering about that.

I personally wouldn't use an iPhone if it wasn't jailbroken, but I am far from the average user, I hack and tweak everything I get my hands on. I'd say, look at what features you'll gain and look at what you may lose out on and decide for yourself if it is worth it.

Re: iPhone - April 14th 2010, 08:34 PM

My iPhone is jailbroken. But that's because it's my boyfriends old one, and I'm on a different network than what the phones on. So I use the jailbreak to unlock it. Of course, I still personalize it with different icons and tweeks. I'm only using his old phone because I'm still waiting for my contract to end, which is probably after the summer. And when the potential 4th Gen iPhone is supposedly meant to be realised! So I could have it just in time

But I think that it's okay to jail break as long as you need to, and have the knowledge incase something goes wrong! It has made my phone a little slower, and laggier. But that just comes with it I suppose. But I need it jailbroken or else I go back to a 'regular' phone. And I can't see that happening!

It's up to you what you do though. Just be warned, if something goes wrong, you could be without your phone until a new version of a hack is out, or whatever. And you can't go crying back to Apple either!

Uh, dude iPhone OS 4.0 has multitasking. In fact, they spent half the time talking about the 7 different types of multitasking!

It's just a fact. Some of the main reasons people used jailbreaking was multitasking, customisation, and cydia. You can now multitask better than the cydia versions, and almost as well customise it; save for the icons (which I mentioned). Cydia is a big plus though, you just have to determine if voiding your warranty is worth it.

My brother jailbroke his but it lagged like crazy and he had to restore it. I don't feel the need to jailbreak mine. It's a little risky, anyway, as far as warranties/insurance go. Apple disregards any problems you might have with your product if it's jailbroken. But, yeah, it's up to you I guess

If you want to make it more open then yes jailbreak it. I hear it can be a tedious process though and you may end up bricking it.

And in my own personal opinion, just switch to an Android phone =p
