Exclamation iPod Internet Wi-Fi URGENT - June 7th 2010, 08:58 PM

So my parents unplug the Ethernet cable every night. Is there any way I could find a way for the Internet to still work? It still stays connected but goes very slow and doesn't really work as well. I researched and found that you can make a new network using ubuntu because it connects with the Ethernet connection or something. I was going to try that bug I have no idea if it won't work when the cable is unplugged. I also have this wireless USB adapter that uses our home connection but it does the same thing my iPod does and works on local only, is there any way to use that with a laptop and try to use my iPod on it? Also, is there any way for my iPod to connect to an iPhone Internet connection or my actual phone? If it's possible to connect to my phones Internet, will it charge money? Thanks! Need answers ASAP!

WiFi works off of a LAN. If it's unplugged, you'd have to either use a different wireless network, or, plug it back in. . .

Local only indicates that there is a network connection, however it is not able to access anything beyond your local network: no internet.

Not to be too judgemental, but shouldn't you be not on the internet if your parents don't want you on the internet?

How do you create a new wireless network?

No, I know they don't want me to, but it's just for the summer lol.

They unplug the ethernet plug at night to keep me from using the internet. The access becomes local only, and I want to use wi-fi on my ipod at night. I wanted to know if there was any way to still say connected to the internet while it's unplugged. Either create a new network, connect to a 3G network. Anything, as long as it provides the full wi-fi capability for my ipod.

If they disconnect the ethernet cable between the wall and the router, then no you're without internet. You could use 3G but afaik iPods don't take SIM cards...

If they've disconnected the ethernet cable from the router, then the internet in your house isn't connected, and isn't working. There's no other way around it, if the wires not in, there's no connection! There's nothing else you can do really. You could try to talk to your parents to see if they would allow you to have the internet on during the night. But apart from that, you've got no hope.

Good luck.

Maybe you could ask your parents to set a time limit.
You could talk to them about it, and instead of unplugging it, use whatever to set it to make the internet shut off at a certain time (say... eleven or so). Then, they can set a time to put it back on.
That's what my dad did for me a while ago. It works! So, instead of them just unplugging it and having to reboot it, just set a time limit for it to disconnect.

Hope this helped!

Love you-- Kayla c:

You could connect to another nearby wireless network (Which is probably what you're doing if you still have a connection after your parents unplug the cable)
