Ripping from mini DV to AVI - November 10th 2010, 07:50 PM

Hi ya I want to live rip from my mini DV camcorder to an avi file so I can edit it in Adobe Premier. (The premier import function doesnt work)
I connect via USB. I used to have a piece of software that did this, but lost it and now need some software that will capture to avi in realtime. I can't afford a video card for my laptop and I need the software freeware/shareware as it is for my charities youthgroup who are making a film this Saturday.

Cheers,

Grant

Your camcorder 'could' have come with software to transfer and convert the files from the camcorders memory. If you've lost it, you should be able to download it from the camcorders brands website. Try googling the make and model and see i there's any software available.

Otherwise, I'm not too sure how you'll get the files off the camcorder to the pc. But you should be able to download something for free to convert it to avi. You might just need to do a little googling.

Let us know how it goes.

Oh the Joys. Turns out the problem is I don't have a firewire card, so the import function in Adobe Premiere didn't like me.

Found a long way round in the end though.

Set camera to WEBCAM
Capture using windows media encoder
Convert to mpeg-1 using anyvideo converter
Import into adobe

Long way round but got there in the end. Oh and didn't have disc as bought of ebay when my old one was stolen in a burglary

Cheers Guys,

Grant
