Laptop selection - November 28th 2010, 05:35 AM

I think that if our finances are stable enough, I'm going to try to get a laptop when we get taxes back next year. I'm not really sure what I need, exactly, though.

I'll be using it mostly for school/internet use. But I'd really like for it to be able to store a ton of pictures and music... And it would be amazing if I could play the Sims on it.

So... I basically need all of the information I can get. I mean, it needs to be affordable. I don't want to pay more than about $800-900 for one. Definitely $1000 at most. But if it's lower than that, fine... I'm not going to complain.

I have no idea what brand would be good... Like on the sites where you build your own computer... I have no clue. I don't know what kind of processor or what amount of memory is necessary, etc.

I'd really appreciate all the help I can get. I really do need a laptop that I can tote to college classes with me and whatnot. Thanks in advance.

Being able to use the internet and do school work and then to play the sims are both opposite ends of the spectrum. The Sims is very graphically intensive, and you need a pretty decent gaming laptop/computer to get it running pretty well. But to just use the internet and do some work, you could get a bog standard one. It just depends on your price range.

I don't work in dollars, and I don't know how much laptops are where you are. But maybe popping into a computer shop and having a browse should help you make your decision. If you want to play the sims that badly, then you might have to fork out a bit of cash to get it running well without lagging. If you're okay to leave out the gaming part, you could probably get any laptop.

Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help!

hey, i use my laptop for the exact same things you're looking to do with yours. I use it for school, internet, music/ipod, photos/camera.

i have a mac. it is a little more on the expensive side but definatley pays itself off. i have the basic macbook that runs for about $1000. BUT- if your a student and bring your I.D. to purchase the laptop its a $100 discount. i've had mine for a little over a year. so far its running like the first day i got it. no viruses or issues. as a matter of fact i haven't even gotten a pop up yet.

i think its worth looking into. they last a long time and hardly ever get viruses or have problems.

I Think your best bet would be to go into a computer shop and tell them what you want to use it for and the highest your willing to pay, they should be able to sort you out.

I have a Hp it does internet and stuff if i was at school, but only plays games that need basic things, I can play older versions of sims but not newer ones. My fiance has an Acer and his does everything, but he wont let me play sims lol.
