I'm not really sure I want to try it...
Someone tell me how it goes? I've heard it's good, but that's only in the media and everyone knows you can't trust them

Honestly, even as a Mac user, I'd give Windows 7 a shot, if only I had a PC in the house that I could put it on without causing trouble with family (the family computer is the only PC in the house besides individual laptops).

Re: Windows 7 Public Beta - January 9th 2009, 01:32 PM

Windows 7 is essentially Windows Vista Service Release 2. Bigger than a service pack but less than an OS

I doubt I'll download it, I'm happy using FOSS software. The taskbar is similar to KDE 4.x and it will run out in August.

It is hardly a Public Beta if only 2.5 million users can download it

This lying sums M$ up to a tee

Im still getting 'server busy' when trying to download though

Incorrect. They're only limiting the licenses to 2.5 million users. The downloads can continue after that, but there's the 30-day limit (longer if you know how to extend the time period)

Yeah, they've taken it offline while they patch the servers. Extremely disappointing.
One of the Win 7 team will be posting here: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/default.aspx
when it goes live again. You can expect "server is busy" errors on that page too.

I'll download it on my desktop as I use that less than my laptop and there's less of a risk of it killing something as it's a beta.

I think I'll stick with Windows XP. Works fine for me.

Downloaded, installed, registered/activated very smoothly. A lot better than Vista, on first impressions.

Edit: They've gone public.
@TD46 - It wasn't away of getting around licencing - it was a way of getting the licence from microsoft before they made it public again.

Re: Windows 7 Public Beta - January 11th 2009, 06:36 AM

Its actually pretty good... runs alot faster on my desktop than vista ever did even with SP1

Slideshow desktops are cool... not so sure about the slightly mac-esque taskbar tho... bit fiddily at first.. cool in concept tho

UAC is less annoying, files seem to transfer pretty fast.. it installs fast too... and the wifi is alot more.. stable..

I'm actually impressed !

EDIT: They changed paint... after like.. how long haha... man..

One thing I've changed already is the size of the taskbar, I like it on the smaller setting... taking up less precious real estate

I might download it, I'm still in two minds especially with Microsoft's record on security and DRM
