Browsers? - February 10th 2011, 03:28 AM

Hey everyone,

I'm currently on Google Chrome, but it keeps having problems loading.

I have Firefox and it keeps freezing up.
Internet Explorer is so incredibly slow.

Are there any other browsers that anyone recommends?
Also, is there any reason that Google Chrome keeps messing up?

Thanks. I downloaded it and it seems to be working well so far. I hope it continues to work.

Maybe uninstall Google Chrome and re-install the newest version? My firefox was acting up a few weeks ago but once I updated it all was well.

Besides Chrome I use Opera and Maxthon (set up like IE but better).

Opera's really good for it's bookmark manager and Maxthon seems quicker to load image heavy sites

I have to agree with the recommendation of opera. It's a great browser with quite a few nice features. Hope it continues to work well for you.

If all three--Chrome, Firefox, IE--have problems, then I would assume that it's a problem with your computer, rather than the browsers.

How about give your computer a thorough checkup?

Re: Browsers? - February 14th 2011, 02:28 AM

Opera is suppose to be the least popular big name player in the browser world.

And the funny thing is that its the most popular browser on this thread. Cuz I use it too!

Its the best. Its the fastest. It uses the least resources.

I skipped Chrome, because google is evil they record everything we do.
IE is getting better but its not that refined, and its also a security threat because of its popularity.
Firefox sucks I use to use it. Firefox is such a resource hog. It is soo bad on older computers(even though i use a super fast pc now). Im staying away from this one. Its also one of the top targets from hackers now since it controls about 30 percent of the worlds browser market.

Opera is used by about 3 percent or less of the worlds internet browser users. Its such a bad target if ur a hacker. Its a complete waste of time to crack. If am a hacker i would hack IE or Firefox(which I am not, im just looking through a evil persons perspective)

It sounds like you have a problem with your computer rather than a browser problem, as has been said you need to give your computer a thorough check up, and that includes more than a virus scan x.x

All 4 major web browsers have failed for you ? Oh my, oh my, must be because of Valentine's Day!

Could you please try create another user account on your computer, install your favorite web browser, and use that account for a while? This is to narrow down the possibilities of what might have gone wrong. I am thinking that you might have corrupted "something" when you are uninstalling something, but that's just a wild guess.

Thanks!

Two suggestions:
  1. Fanboyism is fine; what you like is up to you. But to be honest, I would appreciate realistic reviews more.
  2. If I were a black-hat hacker and I would like to have a go at web browsers, then I would target insecure plugins (you know, like Java plugin, for example), rather than specific web browsers. If you want "bigger bang for the bucks," then that's a much bigger bang for the buck compared to targeting browser-specific

Hahahaha thanks. Google Chrome started working again, but I'm afraid it will quit on me again. It has quit a couple of times, but every time, it has come back up.

I am the Administrator so I really want to stay on this user account.

Hahaha, Fail and Fall happen to have very similar spellings, . Unfortunately this doesn't work when speaking though--only when writing (or typing).

You can have multiple administrative accounts on your computer. You never mention which operating system you have so I cannot give specific instruction. But look in Control Panels for User Accounts, click on it and you should be able to create new user accounts.

Which one is the best to use on Dial up? I'm curious, because of all of the suggestions.

It would be better if you create a new thread on this

For dial-up, all browsers would be sluggish. No major web browser support dial-up out-of-the-box these days; you will have to change the settings to boost the performance.

Common in ALL major web browsers:
  • Increase cache size (to at least 100 MB)
  • Disable Java (remember to set up a white-list, too)
  • Disable load images (remember to set up a white-list, too)
  • Disable Flash (remember to set up a white-list, too)
  • Disable javascript (remember to set up a white-list, too)
  • Disable other unnecessary plugins
  • Disable bandwidth hogs
  • Disable autoupdates
  • Block all ads (normally I wouldn't recommend this, but dial-up is one of the exceptions)

Browser-specific:
  • Opera with Turbo Mode enable.
  • Firefox with pipeline enable.
  • Chrome: Although it is my default web browser and I like it, I wouldn't recommend you to use it on dial-up connection.

If you ask for one recommendation, then I have to say that Opera suits your situation best.

By disabling all unnecessary plugins and features, block all ads, increase the cache size, and enabling turbo mode, your dial-up browsing experience would definitely be better.

If you need specific instructions, please tell us which browser you plan to use. All browsers can be optimized for dial-up, but I have to say that Opera's Turbo Mode is really powerful in this case.
