Netbook turns off when charger unplugged. - June 24th 2011, 12:01 AM

Is this a battery problem or the netbook as a whole?

Literally, as soon as the charger is pulled the netbook turns off. There's not even a second of charge in there.

Sounds like a completely shot battery. Is the machine still under warranty?

Not under warranty, no. The battery has been awful lately. About a week ago full battery lasted 6 minutes.

My old laptop had the same problem.
It doesn't matter if it is under warranty because most don't cover the battery anyway, mine didn't.

Look at the battery for a code and the type that in google and try to find a new one.

Do you leave your netbook plugged in a lot even when it is fully charged? That can ruin the battery and make it dependent on the charger.

Battery life is shortened if it's not given the chance to die regularly. If you charge it while it doesn't need it, eventually it loses battery life and relies on the charge you've been giving it. The same happens with ym laptop. It lasts about 5 minutes maximum with basic programmes (internet..msn...skype..) running before it dies completly. You could try getting a new battery, ot just keep it on charge instead now since that one is pretty much relying on a charge now anyway.

It is the battery. If a few weeks ago it only lasted a few minutes, the battery is dead.
I recommend getting a new battery-or if you are considering getting a new laptop, get a new one.

This should work, but if you take out the battery and leave the charger in, the computer should still run. You can leave the battery in the computer if you'd like. If you want to order a new battery, you can look at the battery to find model number/serial number etc or you can take your computer into a store to see if they can help you find a new battery.
