what is the best photoshop? - July 1st 2011, 05:29 AM

Looking up Photoshop programs right now and trying to find out which one to buy but which one is the best? I hate elements so don't even say that one it's rip off of the originals I know that much

Re: what is the best photoshop? - July 1st 2011, 07:19 AM

As of July 1, 2011, it's Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended? Yes? Is this what you're asking?

I'm sorry but . . . eh, what exactly are you asking anyway? From what I understood, you're asking which Adobe Photoshop version is the best as of now.

But I'm pretty sure that's not what you're asking (because the answer to that question is obvious, 120% obvious). So, sorry for being stupid, but could you please clarify your question? I'm having trouble understanding what you're trying to ask.

my question is very clear: Which Photoshop is best
And it isn't obvious apparently since I don't know

Which begs the question: Are we talking about the same thing here?

Are you specifically talking about Adobe Photoshop or are you using the term photoshop interchangeably with "image editor"?

---------------------

Not counting Elements and Express (which are different products from Adobe and nobody would refer to them as "Photoshop"), for Photoshop CS5, there're really only two versions: Standard vs. Extended. The Extended version offers more tools for 3D image editing and motion-based content editing (e.g. from a video sequence).

If you are planning to buy the educational edition, then it's the Extended version you are getting. If my memory is right, Adobe offers 80% discount for students and teachers.

--------------------

Now, if you meant "What is the best Photoshop edition for me?" or "What is the best image editor?" then the answer would be different.

Once again if this sounds rude sorry but as I'm reading your reply's it sounds like your calling me stupid and aren't exactly read my question!

1. I read your question--multiple times for that matter, because I had to try to figure out what on earth you were trying to ask. Hence, I did give the correct answer in my first post in this thread, and elaborated on it in my second post.

2. No offense taken on my part. But yes, I did assumed that you are clueless about image-editing. That does not mean I'm thinking that you're stupid because nobody knows everything; you probably excel far above me at another field.

You just asked a question with an obvious answer anyway, which clearly yell out loud that you are a complete beginner at image editing. Again, nothing's wrong with not knowing everything; nobody knows everything. You showed that you don't know so I treat you as a beginner. I can't see anything problem in that.

3. In tech support--and probably other supports as well, be it health, or whatever--it's a good practice to assume that the person who's asking for help knows little to none about the subject at hand. Ask anyone who have worked in tech support, most would agree.

Take something common as an example: Would you like to know statistically how many drivers don't know where their spare tire is located?

4. More details = better answer. You give almost zero details. You never tell us how familiar you are with image editing or your willingness to learn. You never tell us what you're planning to use Photoshop for. You never tell us your budget, etc.

So we pretty much have to . . . assume. Here's a funny joke: Assume spells ass-u-me: When one assumes, he/she makes an ass out of you and me.

5. "what PHOTOSHOP is the best to use?"

It depends on the user. For someone who have never used any advanced image editor before, any edition of Photoshop would deliver a package of pure frustration, unless that person is a genius. Even for a fast learner, Photoshop requires at least a few a months of dedication to become fairly proficient.

For a complete beginner, I would recommend moving up the ladder slowly. Starting from free and simple programs like PhotoScape to Paint.NET.

Then moving to advanced image editor like GIMP. And then transition from GIMP to Photoshop. GIMP is currently the only free advanced image editor that can be compared to the expensive Photoshop. Even though it has less features, it provides all that an average person would ever need for image editing.

An alternate route is to transition from Adobe Photoshop Elements. After you're familiar with it, then move up to Photoshop.

--------------------------

Note: Adobe Photoshop is more of an image editor than a drawer. If you prefer to draw, then Adobe Illustrator would the better choice.

A free alternative is InkScape. Oftentimes considered as the free alternative for Illustrator, Inkscape offers many freehand tools and detail tutorials for the comfort of drawing on a computer. Both Illustrator and Inkscape support vector graphic (as opposed to raster graphic). So scaling won't be a problem.

Anyway, case closed and . . . good night. Time to sleep.

I took Photoshop in home schooling...I know how to use it but they just have a lot of different versions so it might be obvious but to me it wasn't once again I'm sorry

Alright...well to answer your question, yeah it does depend on the user. It really depends what you will be using it for and what tools you'll need--if you are looking for something great for doing basics, almost anything works BUT if you want something for nit picky details, I'd go with one of the CSs.
I had CS3 and I loved it. It was very basic/easy to understand and had basically everything you need without being too complex.
CS5 has a lot more tools and has changed up a few things-one thing they changed is now with the clone stamp tool you can see what the result will be before you make your change. I'm more of the nit picky type where I'll actually zoom in to pixel level and have multiple layers etc, so CS5 is great for me.
Download the trials and test them out for yourself!

If you are looking for something basic, maybe seek freeware--always look for ratings and reviews and make sure that you are downloading something legit and not from some random website that could have viruses. You can use the Google one, Picasa.
If you are looking for something more advanced, then more professional tools are for you.

Leave the past behind, just walk away
When it's over, and the heart break
And the cracks begin to show

Your original question makes no sense. Photoshop is a single piece of software by Adobe - not just any old image editor. Thanks to your last clarification, the best VERSION of Photoshop is Photoshop Extended CS5.5.

I thought about you for the rest of the day.
Catching my head turning to find you again.
I hated myself for it.
