Blackberry Torch..

I just want to point out - sorry if I seem moody/grumpy/mean in the thread but honestly I'm getting really annoyed..
I got a Blackberry Torch a while ago. It is the nicest phone I've ever had, looks great, easy to text with, great camera and it's a nice weight.
I got a O2 simplicity SIM card but as my parents aren't going to spend a lot of money on getting the bb data plan I just got one with unlimited text and some minutes..
One of my friends has a blackberry bold and isn't on the data plan either but her brother(who is currently away) managed to get Blackberry app world so she has managed to get facebook and such without getting the data plan.
I've been reading a lot of forms which have been telling me how to do this without having a data plan, great, but I need to get online on my phone to do this. Which is not going to happen!
When I go onto the Browser this comes up "Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Blah Blah Blah.."
When I go to Manage Connections on the home screen it just shows Mobile network and Bluetooth where I've been told it should have a Wi-Fi setting as well.
When I go to the Setup Wizard, it tells me my wireless network is turned on but I have no wireless coverage area. I click connect, it loads to 100% but I'm still not connected, I even had it sitting right next to the bt home hub!
I've heard about Opera Mobile, and apparently this works on Blackberrys without having to use the data plan, but again, I need to be able to get online with my phone to give me a device to get online, well thought out eh?
All I want to do is be able to get Blackberry App world on my phone without playing and extra £10 a month. Someone PLEASE help.
And sorry but I know there is a way of getting this without getting a blackberry data plan so could no one tell me I need to get it? Thanks
