Lion -
July 19th 2011, 04:11 PM
I can't believe there aren't any threads about Lion coming out!
The experts are guessing that it might arrive on Wednesday. Is anyone planning on updating their Mac right away?I've held off on purchasing a laptop until it comes with Lion installed. I want the install disks (or whatever they'll send with it) and I didn't want the hassle of having to back up, then install it myself. |

Heh, funny enough. I didn't even know about it coming out till I saw this thread
I guess I haven't really been paying attention to Apple lately.Personally, I probably won't upgrade for a while. I have a older Macbook that probably won't be able to run it. So probably no upgrade till I get a newer computer. "Being someone's friend isn't about what you should have done. It's about what you do." Hahaha it should be soon. I have an uncle that works with the Apple store and even he isn't sure--he said since the past few have come out on Tuesdays closer to the end of the month, we can probably expect it next week since it didn't happen yet. But you never know.
I have gotten to test Lion out, it is pretty darn spiffy! Lots of new things especially with the trackpad--if you are getting a desktop, buy the trackpad with it! The interface is very visual which is lovely. They do add some must needed tweaks prepare!

I just saw on the internet that it is coming out tomorrow for sure... Apple stated it in a press conference, so now all I'm waiting for is the juicy reviews and for the computers to ship out with it installed!

Does anyone know the answer to this: I'm trying to figure out if the rumors are true about installing on all computers that you authorize your iTunes/apple id to--that should be no more than 5 computers. I know Lion does not have an official family pack yet.

I'm not entirely sure about that :/ I'm the only person in my house who has a Mac.
I installed it not too bad. I had to change the scrolling back to normal though, it was confusing me >.>

I first heard about it today as well.
I am so slow. ![]() Let me know what you guys think of it! I may or may not update depending on the feedback I hear. ♥ I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. Answered my own question:
If you download it, you can install it on any computer that you "own/control"...there is no official limit that I know of, but if you copy the application that gets downloaded (the Install Lion app in your applications folder), you can install this on any other computer that has Snow Leopard. Re: Lion -

I answered my own question here. There is no limit.
Apple does NOT have any official records on the Lion install to see if you control/own the computer. Technically, you are only SUPPOSED to install it on the computers you own/control BUT you can install it on as many as you want. To do so, MAKE A COPY of the application of Install Lion (after you download from the App store copy/burn a disc of the app--in your applications folder). The file goes away after you install Lion! You can now install on any computer with Snow Leopard Leave the past behind, just walk away When it's over, and the heart break And the cracks begin to show *~*~This little girl was alone in the world~*~* Hold Onto Hope |

Honestly, nobody is going to check. If Apple really didn't want this to happen they would have gone to greater lengths to stop it.

Re: Lion -

I actually asked the people I worked with--they are the tech staff for a school district that uses only Macs.
They were the ones to dig deep and find there is no file for/to check authentication. They actually said that you can install to however many computers as long as you keep the application. The only requirement is that you have Snow Leopard on the computer you want to upgrade. And I agree with Mudkip, if they wanted to restrict it, they would have put out things like serial numbers or limit how many users you can install with. It is a trade off though, you can't install Lion without Snow Leopard. When I buy the MBP, that will be the only Mac in the house... so, I'm not going to be copying it around even if Apple won't bust my chops for it. Good to know stuff like this though.

I upgraded the MacBook to Lion and I am pretty happy with it. It runs faster and even remembers exactly what I was working with after I shut the machine down, what a great feature. One thing I don't like is that Office 2004 (which I unwittingly purchased just two months before Office 2008 came out) no longer works since the Lion upgrade.

I got Lion the day it came out! I really do like it! Not as exciting of a release that Snow Leopard was but it was still pretty good.

If you buy a Mac that will get a free update, those you cannot copy and distribute Lion from--those are the only 1 time installs.
Also yeah...I'm sad that a few older programs don't work still, but it is expected to do that at some point Leave the past behind, just walk away When it's over, and the heart break And the cracks begin to show *~*~This little girl was alone in the world~*~* Hold Onto Hope |

Been using since the first beta was seeded to devs! Love it so much! Windows 7 is dead
I thought about you for the rest of the day. Catching my head turning to find you again. I hated myself for it. |
