eSafe????? - August 8th 2011, 01:13 PM

Hey guys..
So I am kinda a MASSIVE n00b and yeah but anyway the school I go to requires each student to have a laptop.. My friends and I recently found at that the school has installed a system called eSafe on to all our laptops.. So I was wondering if anybody new what exactly eSafe was? what it does? and how that will affect my usage of the laptop?

Thanks for any help.. xx

eSafe is essentially another computer protection software like Norton or something similar: antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, etc. For large networks, like those used by schools and businesses, it essentially does the same thing across the whole system of computers -- but it can also be modified by the system controller to monitor for certain types of sites (those inappropriate for school, or that go against your school's Internet Use Policy) and block web access to them. It can do the same for downloading certain programs to your networked computer (ever notice how only the Administrator can give permission to download a program to a computer?).

It shouldn't affect the performance of your computer very much, if at all. It will only restrict your access to certain internet resources. If it's giving you problems, or you notice that your computer performance dropped significantly after installing eSafe, you should talk to an IT staff member at your school and they should be able to help.
