VMware Fusion (Mac) - August 18th 2011, 10:13 PM

I have Windows 7 as a virtual machine on my iMac using VMware Fusion. The whole reason I wanted VMware was to use Mac OS X and Windows 7 at the same time. But when I have Windows 7 running Mac OS X goes slow >.> Windows 7 is running like a dream but I find it hard to multi-task between both operation systems as Mac OS X is laggy. Is this just something I have to live with? or can I speed it up?

1. Could be to do with the system resources allocation. A relative of mine did the same thing (don't think it was with VMware Fusion though). She said it literally split your computer in half and you could only use half the ram etc. for each OS.

2. If your VM is running on top of the Mac OS (not a hardcore dual-boot) then it could just be that the VM is using lots of resources so Mac doesn't have enough to run smoothly.

I had a Windows XP VM for Windows 7 but the VM lagged so much I had to get rid of it. Never found out what the problem was :/

Do you need both OS's running simultaneously or could you just make a proper dual boot and run one at a time?

Lame :/ Thanks for the reply. I only really want one at a time so I don't have to keep switching it off as I download torrents quite a bit.

If you only need to run one at a time rather than both at the same time, then you can Boot Camp Mac and Windows 7.

And this is the first time that I hear someone goes through the trouble of setting up virtual machine just to download torrents. If you are interested, both uTorrent and Transmission are good Mac-compatible torrent clients.
