iTunes can't locate songs - August 22nd 2011, 11:53 AM

I am annoyed.

I have over 3000 songs on my iTunes and more than half of them suddenly have errors with them.

I can't play them because it asks me to locate them individually and I don't have that sort of patience, plus I don't have a clue where they'd be located.

I tried reinstalling iTunes and it's done the same.

I'm scared to plug my iPod in incase it deletes them on there

Help!?

My Itunes did this, I had to import the songs again and Re-download them. Usually there should be a button that comes up that says 'Locate songs' And if you click that you can try and re-locate them. But it was easier to just to import them again and re-download them.

1. Make sure iTunes is closed and then go to your music folder.
2. Open the iTunes folder that is located in your music folder.
3. Drag and drop "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Desktop or any other place if needed.
4. Delete "iTunes Library.itl". (The extension will most likely be hidden)
5. Open up iTunes, click "File" and go to Library and then click "Import Playlist". Now navigate to "iTunes Music Library.xml" and open it.

Do you download songs from the net? Because if you do that, then sometimes the particular website or host gets deleted or moved or re-named etc so then itunes can no longer find the file. I've had that happen to me a few times so try and use more reliable websites like itunes to get music from. Also when downloading songs make sure you click download and not just open, because if you do that the song appears for a while but once you open and close itunes, then you can't play the song anymore but it still might appear in the list and come up as an error when you click it.

Ah as you rip them from youtube, I find when I do that I have to save them at least 2 times before my laptop recognises them and removes them. Just re download them and re import them. The songs might be in your 'downloads' folder, if they are in there you might be able to just simply click ' open with itunes' . Try looking in your download folder before you re download though. Or you could do both to make sure it does not happen again xD

Just delete the iTunes folder located in your Music folder. Next time you run iTunes it will automatically be created again. Then have iTunes automatically locate your Music folder.

Re: iTunes can't locate songs - August 24th 2011, 11:27 AM

I only ever get this issue when I move my songs to a different folder, usually when I recieve a location issue on iTunes I just double click the song and manually locate it; from there iTunes may automatically locate the rest depending how it feels.

Do your systems have a mind of their own? I've never in my life come across this bizarreness. And my PC is full of downloaded content.

It's done it before but it was easily sorted...
I honestly can't think of what's wrong with it...
I must have deleted a folder or something. that's all I can think of :/
