Windows Live Messenger 14 O_o - January 10th 2009, 05:39 AM

So i got the email about the new Windows Live Messenger. It's Windows Live Messenger 2009/Windows live Messenger 14.

It's weird.

Like, everything is all in different places and strange, i don't have tabbed chats because there is no Windows Plus! for this version, its quite odd.

The good things about this is that you can now have animated display pictures, woohoo, little additions such as actually being able to click on links in somebodies personal message etc.

What are your thoughts about the update if you have it?

It's interesting. Nothing too special. It's called 14 for a reason, but I can't remember what that is. Actually like the looks of it, though.

Hm, can anyone explain a little more about it or give a link to it?
I haven't heard about it/received any emails about it.

If you go to the WLM page it's the most recent download. It doesn't advertise itself as WLM 2009 or 14 or anything, it's just.. there.

I got the messenger 2009 to see what it was like. and I don't mind it. Just seems like the other one except the design is a bit different and instead of 'online' you got 'availble'.

I mean, its more worth the update compared to the previous ones that they've released. but not exactly a whole new messenger.

Well a release like this means major changes. Updates, say, 14.1, will be minor changes. And then release 15 (or since, apparently, they are cool enough to just skip loads of numbers, maybe it'll be 56) will mean more major changes. But yeah..

I dont like it.
Tried it and everything seemed so strange.
I think I'll stay with the one I've got.

Yeah, i'm gonna try and get used to it. I hope they release an updated version of Live Plus! though. I kind of miss my tabbed chatting.

I got a copy of WLM 9 Beta when it was unreleased, if any of the changes like it are like the ones in 14, I'm not going to switch. I'm quite happy with 8.5 with plus and a-patch :]

I've used it a little more now and while it takes some getting used to, it's just a messenger client. Pidgin FTW, anyways.

My PC's been running slow so I haven't gotten that version of Windows Live yet.
I've just been using a Mac compatible version lately, and it doesn't even have most of the normal features.
Anyway, sounds cool that it has animated display pictures now, I've been waiting for that to happen.
And any time a messenger changes it takes some time to get used to, I'm sure you can get used to it soon enough.
And if not, then you can always go back to the older version.

I quite like it actually. Looks quite nice and the new features (animated display pictures, multiple points of presence and the ability to have a personal message AND your "now playing" at the same time) make it worth the upgrade.
Nudges seem to have gotten quite violent since I last got one, but it's just a matter of waiting for the next MessPatch and MsgLivePlus releases.

Have Pidgin sorted out their problems connecting to MSN yet? I know the server was changed.

Version numbers are often inflated to make it appear a program is more advanced than it actually is.

I don't like it but then I do not like Windows so go figure. KMess for me

Yeah i'm starting to get used to it. I found another cool addition were you can create your own dynamic display pictures (you know those animated ones where it changes when you type out an emoticon) with your webcam. It's pretty cool.

Not many of my friends have got it so they cant see my animated pictures etc. But hopefully word will spread.

Still waiting for the plus release, i miss my tabbed chatting still.

I miss chat log encryption the most. Second place is nudge protection from MessPatch and third is the NudgeBomb script for MsgLivePlus.

But then you can't send! With nude-protection and nudgebomb, you can send infinite nudges (the script version even automates it so you don't have to click!) but you can't be nudged back!

I like it, but Messenger Plus doesn't have a completed upgrade for it yet.

No, they haven't.

For the past two days I've been connected to MSN through WLM.
