I would not recommend installing a bunch of fonts on your computer.
Besides clogging up your registry and potentially slow down your start-up time (of both your computer and other programs like GIMP, Photoshop, Office suites, etc.), do you really want to find yourself scrolling through a list of a few hundred fonts just to find a single one? I know I don't .--------------------------- If you want a lot of fonts while still keeping it organized (like, without having scroll through 500+ fonts just to find a single one), then I would recommend using a font manager. You want to be able to organize your fonts into group or sets, and being able to load and unload fonts without actually installing them. And yes, Windows 7's built-in font manager can "Hide" the unnecessary fonts without needing uninstall them and unhide them when you need. But it's still fairly basic. Personally, I recommend using a different font manager if you want to have a lot of fonts. -------------------------- Again, if a lot of fonts is what you want, then I recommend get a good font manager. Many free ones are available; some of which are about as good as the commercial ones. Organize them into groups and sets; load only what you want, then unload them--makes things a lot simpler (and faster to find what you want, too). 500 - 700 fonts are plenty; seriously, you don't need any more than that. |

Personally, I use NexusFont on my computers. It's free and under active development. Many font managers exist out there; it's all up to what you like the most. ------------------------------- Also, if you have a lot of time to kill, you can find free fonts to download on sites like DaFont.com, UrbanFonts.com, or FontPark.net. Personally, I usually go to SmashingMagazine's typography category [link here] and look through their articles. Occasionally they post some articles on new high quality free fonts that we can download (saves me the time of looking for them on my own, lol ) |
