Am I Just Terrible with Computers? Or... - November 5th 2011, 05:54 AM

Every single time I shut my computer off, (I run Windows 7 FYI) it always ALWAYS says "Windows Installing Updates 1 of 1". I'm not even exaggerating, my computer does this every night.
I doubt Windows updates this often, so I'm really confused. What's going on with my computer? I thought it would eventually go away but it hasn't. Is anyone else having this problem? Have any of you had this problem? What did you do to stop it? Is there any way I can fix it?
In case you're wondering - there is a reason I'm not Googling it. I've learned that Google can either be a reassuring or a really scary place and I just don't want to go down that road. I have Anxiety issues so I don't want to get scared. But if it's something I SHOULD be worrying about, I'll make sure to worry about that at an appropriate time.
If anyone knows anything that could help, please tell me. I want to talk to my mom, but she'll probably pass it off as nothing, so I want to know if it is nothing or something before I talk to her.
Thanks.

I will forgive, but I'll never forget.

actully its windows automatic updates and it keeps the windows up to date
and u can disable automatic update
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.

In the left pane, click Change settings.

Choose the option that you want.

Under Recommended updates, select the Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates check box, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

but i recommend u to don't disable automatic update

I have Windows on my Mac, and just about every time I boot up Windows, there are updates.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I'd say check the update history-you can quick search Windows Update through the start menu and there is an Install History part. See what is installing every night.
I do agree with King Of Iron Fist, you may have it set to automatically update. If you have this set and there is an update, it will normally download the update and install automatically--a small window will appear saying an update is downloading and that is the only notification you will get most times. On shut down/booting up, you will get a screen displaying configuring/installing...etc. You can do what King Of Iron Fist said above to disable this.

That happened to me, too. One night I had like seventy something updates, the next night thirty something, and after that I'd always have one to seven. It stopped on it's own, though. They are just the automatic updates. Like what was previously mentioned, you can disable automatic updates, if you'd like, but I prefer keeping mine on so I get the latest stuff.

Automatic updates really bug the crap out of me. It needs to update every minute every hour.
