CD Burning -
December 9th 2011, 08:18 PM
I have heard that it is possible to burn a CD (domestically) with certain tracks, recordings, or other data, and put some sort of "lock" on it, which prevents other people from copying/burning it and reproducing the CD themselves.
Of course with the right software, other people could probably crack the "lock", but it makes things sort of difficult. My question is, does anyone here know what I'm talking about? And does anyone here know how such a "lock" can be put on a CD? At the moment I have very little information on this, and am supposed to talk it over with someone on Sunday. Till then I'm clueless, and I don't want to come out looking totally ignorant on the subject and get bullshitted and ripped off. I think another suitable name for this "lock" is a registration key... I think. I might google that now. If you've got some spare time, read this:

It sounds like what you're after is encryption. It is possible to encrypt data on CDs.
I've never done it myself, so I'm afraid I'm not that much help, but I know that there are quite a few variants of encryption software you can buy/download, I've heard TrueCrypt is trustworthy. A registration key is something else altogether

Are you talking about copy protection methods?
MakeUseOf has a pretty good article on this, if you're interested (published on Jan. 11, 2011 so the info there is fairly up-to-date): [How CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Copy Protection Software Works] Wikipedia has a list of CD/DVD copy protection schemes to get you started (with your Googling ): [List of Copy Protection Schemes]You can also give it a try yourself with ActiveLock. The software is under BSD Open license; so it's completely free. |

I'm sure if you google and read reviews of software you will find what you are looking for. I know what you are talking about-like how most DVDs now are encrypted so that you cannot rip them.
I have not done this myself, but definitely take a look online. Leave the past behind, just walk away When it's over, and the heart break And the cracks begin to show *~*~This little girl was alone in the world~*~* Hold Onto Hope |
