Mac users, I need some help! -
January 9th 2012, 06:48 AM
I know nothing about Macs. My boyfriend owns one, and his computer has had an issue lately. His computer has been shutting down randomly and when it does it will beep in groups of three before shutting off. Does anybody know what this means? Anything will help, I'm just completely stupid with Macs, and I would love to be able to help him. Thanks for any help!

Hmmmm. I've actually never heard of this before. What kind of Mac does he have? a macbook, iMac or Mac Pro?
You would be better of to ask in the Apple Support forums: https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa People are genuinely helpful there

There are a few options:
1. If it is still under warranty (basic warranty is 90 days after purchase and more with AppleCare) take it into the store. They will easily find out what to do and in most cases can do it for free. 2. Check this and this. The beeps have to do with RAM 3. Google You can try sticking the install disc in, restart while holding C. This tries to boot up from the install disc. If he has Lion, the latest OS that is diskless, hold alt/option at boot up. What happens exactly? As in does it get past the Apple icon and beep? Or just beeps with a grey screen etc and shuts down? Leave the past behind, just walk away When it's over, and the heart break And the cracks begin to show *~*~This little girl was alone in the world~*~* Hold Onto Hope |

Take it to the Genius Bar. If you can't do that Apple Support is your next option.
