iPod Touch Battery - April 10th 2012, 05:58 PM

I got my iPod touch for my 18th birthday which was about 16 months ago. But lately the battery is just utterly crap.
It was charging all night last night, this morning I unplugged it and was playing Draw Something (the upgraded one, so no ads or anything) for half an hour before I got a "Low Battery - 20% remaining" notification.

Is there anything I can do to improve my battery or does it just get worse over time?

Yes, they do get worse over time but it should not be that bad in that period of time it should still last a lot longer then that.

If you have updated to iOS 5.1, make sure you are quitting the apps properly - "You double-tap the home button, the bottom drawer opens up with all of your previously run applications. You press and hold any application in the drawer and they start jiggling (only the apps in the drawer) and sow a red caution sign. You click the sign and the apps disappear into the ether one by one until your drawer is empty." (http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/ios...apps-list.html).

Some apps tend to drain the battery a lot. If you have not upgraded, then it can be just the battery running down already. DrawSomething may be an app that drains the battery as well...although it shouldn't drain THAT fast.
Worst comes to worst, take it into the Apple Store and see if they can figure out if you need to get a replacement battery - if your iPod is still under warranty, it should be free.

I've had a look on the Apple website and I guess I only had year warranty because I'm not entitled to "phone support" and have to "pay per incident" if I want them to look into it for me.
Coincidentally I'm currently looking into getting a new phone when my current contract runs out this month, and I've found an alright deal on an iPhone 3GS so if I go with that, it won't matter too much that my iPod battery is a bit... crap.

Batteries just naturally get worse over time. There's really not much you can do short of replacing it (which Apple makes nearly impossible for the end user if they aren't comfortable with disassembly). I'd recommend just going for the 3GS if that's what you want, if it's anew one the battery should be much better.
