Suggestions for homecoming dresses? - October 20th 2012, 09:38 PM

So I am going to my first homecoming dance on November 3 (I'm a freshman), and my mom is going to take me dress shopping soon. The problem is that she is very strict about modesty and not looking "slutty" (not that I want to look like that!), which makes dress shopping difficult these days. These are some of her requirements:

-Absolutely no strapless or one-shoulder dresses.
-Dresses with narrow straps are a no.
-The dress cannot hit my thighs higher than an inch or two above the knee.
-It can't have cut-outs in the back.
-It can't be low-cut enough that it shows any cleavage.
-She prefers that it has short sleeves or cap sleeves...at the very least, wide straps.

I showed her dresses like this one & she said no (she said it was basically the same as wearing a tank top in public, which she won't let me do):
And this one, which is really cute in my opinion but too short for her:

Does anyone have any dress suggestions? I want to look cute and pretty, and I really don't want to stand out from everyone else at homecoming because I look overly modest...but again, I definitely don't want to look slutty or inappropriate for my age (14).

Well you could always ask your mom if you could wear a shawl type of thing like a cover-up to cover your shoulder so maybe then you could have a thin strapped dress. Or you could offer to wear leggings on a shorter dress perhaps like the one in the second picture. However maybe something like

I also think that modesty is important and depending on where you live....finding one can be hard and frustrating. I agree with what Cheye said about maybe asking if you could wear a cover up like a shrug or something, you can find really cute ones sometimes There might just have to have some compromising on both sides. Dont worry, you will find a cute dress
