Charity shops - February 5th 2013, 01:24 PM

Does anyone else buy second-hand clothes from charity shops? Some of my friends think it's icky but I don't see why :| They're always washed and clean, they're cheap and you're donating money to charity.

I bought a really nice coat yesterday for £4. I don't see the problem

Loads of my stuff comes form charity shops, including about half my wardrobe and plenty of books I think they're great for bargains on good products, and I don't see any problems considering, like you said, everything's washed and in decent condition before it's sold.

I'm perfectly normal; it's the rest of the world that's insane.

There's two in my town, and I love both of them. I got a really nice blazer for five dollars! I always wash stuff right after I get it though, because it does feel kind of gross at the store.

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair.

I've bought a few things before and you can find some really good bargains

I do wash them before I wear them since their washing powder smells cheap and nasty and my skin is sensitive

Most if not all of what I own clothes-wise is from thrift stores and charity shops.

I love shopping at this Value Village I have near me. Sometimes it takes a lot of searching but I can usually find something really cute. I used to love TJ Maxx as well, but since the former Apple chief joined, their prices aren't really cheap anymore.

And here you are living, despite it all.

I do fairly often. Last year I went to an event where you had to wear clothes you'd bought from a charity shop, which I thought was a cool idea.

I always have a look and if I find something I like, why not? It doesn't matter where it comes from, just, yeah, wash it before you wear something! I bought something and it smelt of pot, washed it five times to get rid of the smell, or was it eight times, but yeah, don't want THAt reputation even if I do that :/

Even my extremely germaphobic former friend did thrift store buying. Just wash before wearing! But you can get cute clothesaat a really good price.

I actually don't only because I don't live in a very major town and I don't really know if we have any in my town. Plus I mainly wear jeans and t-shirts which cost around 40 bucks for a pair of jeans and 4 tshirts

Most of my stuff comes from charity shops or op shops or whatever like that. I seem to be really good at finding bargains on really cool stuff. Probably coz I've had heaps of practice I don't see a problem with it, although I would never wear it straight from the shop without washing it But that's not hard at all, so it's all good.

I love charity shops. Recently it's been a way for me to bulk out the 'male' side of my wardrobe, which is useful because it helps me deal with dysphoria without breaking the bank. xD

Also, I like Oxfam because on the price tags they tell you what that money can be used for.

Re: Charity shops - February 25th 2013, 07:03 PM

I don't believe I've ever been to a 'Charity Shop' Although I'd love to shop at one.
I've always loved charities.

I do shop at second-hand stores and thrift shops (where I can find them) And there's nothing wrong with that. So what?
Your friends can just be preppy and all that all day long, because there's nothing wrong with that.
My 'friends' have the same attitude but they have money so they don't realize that hey, not everyone is rich like SOME people.

So therefore, rock your Charity Shop, Thrift Shop, Second-hand clothes girl.

So dance if it moves you,
and jump in the fire, if it burns you.
I'll throw my arms around you darlin',
and we'll turn to ashes.

Kinda like the way you tell me,
"Baby, please come home. I need you here right now.
I'm crying underwater so you don't hear the sound."

What if I can't forget you?
I'll burn your name into my throat.
I'll be the fire that'll catch you.
What's so good about picking up the pieces?

I'm a massive fan of charity shops. I don't get what some people have against them. You can get decent stuff for cheap and help charity at the same time. It's a win-win situation.
