Summer shoes - May 26th 2009, 04:16 PM

So, i'm slightly on the short side, and generally wear either girly dresses, or denim skirts/shorts.

But i really struggle for footwear. I cant walk in heels, unless there small wedges/kitten heels. But all the shoes I get are sooo painful. Even simply flipflops, leave big blisters, and my feet are raw and red by the end of a day in a pair of shoes.

In the summer, i cant wear a pair of trainers, or school shoes, which i favour in the winter.

Any suggestions? They need to look ok with summer clothes, but not be absolutely painful. The girly dresses are the trickiest.

I have flat shoes out of primark, they're black, with some lace over them, and they only just cover your feet which makes them perfect for summer, and they look good with shorts and dresses, and trousers, and skirts
Also, you can get some pretty sandals which would look nice with dresses, but not slip flops, more of the kind that fasten round your ankle.
Try and pick ones with a little padding, as they won't hurt your feet so much.

Well I just bought some summer shoes today they are sort of like pumps, they might be good for you? They would go with most stuff I think... Lots of people wear them here in Manchester

Gladiator sandles go with pretty much everything, however you need to be careful with those since certain designs will give you blisters. I have a pair of them and they seem to be ok for my feet.

Another type of shoe I recommend is Birkenstock or Mephistos. They are not as pretty but they are really good for your feet. They have lots of arch support and won't give you blisters. Plus they are coming out with some prettier designs. I recently got a pair of Birks and I love them.

just get some pretty trainers(slim line kinda ones)

and sandals and flip flops are only as good as the pair you buy! invest in some good ones that will be less likely to give you blisters!

I am the same I cant walk in heels and because I am so tall I look odd in heels.

I have those primark shoes. They were 2. I have 4 pairs. 2 white and 2 black. The white are perfect for the summer. you can get them in pretty much every colour too.
They wear down quick and last abut a month but for 2 I don't mind.
They look just like those grey pumps but they have laces where the holes are.

If I am going somewhere nice and pumps are not appropriate I will wear wear filp flops, sandals or ballet flats.

i got these yesterday and i love them. very comfy and flexible and cute. i love them so much! they're so comfortable, in fact, i'm wearing them to the paramore concert i'm going to on june 5th.

these are comfortable too, but not as cute, i think.

they both look awesome with any summer dress in my opinion. also, they are on sale.

I'm not emo.
I just hate myself.

I'm going to support the gladiator sandal vote, you can get some really pretty ones that would go with anything!!
I got mine from New Look:
They have a nice range, some with small heels/wedges too. They were a little pricey but I got student discount with my NUS card ... plus, they last
Primark have quite a nice range as well, and much cheaper :P

You can't move mountains by whispering at them.

I know Crocs are some of the ugliest things on the face of the Earth - but the flip-flops (The real deal, not the Airwalks) are the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. And they're getting cheaper and cheaper as Crocs slowly die. I'm sure if you don't have them around you, they're online?

They're great for summer, the padding doesn't hurt my feet, and something that sounds really silly, but where the straps connect to the bottom of the shoe? Is not in the middle so it doesn't rub against my feet. If that made any sense - that's the problem I have with flip-flops.

Birkenstocks are awesome. I got blisters from mine for a while, while they were breaking in, but now I wear them all the time and they feel like nothing. However, you have to be careful with what kind you get, some really don't go with summer dresses.

Also, not all flats are made equal-- I have gotten horrible blisters from some, and nothing at all from others. Sometimes you just have to shop around. One of the things that makes cheap flats 100x more comfortable and healthy are gel inserts.
