How should I wear this dress so that I don't look like a sailor? -

As the title says! I bought this dress to be part of a sailor outfit (absolute bargain at £13) but I think it's really cute and would like to wear it normally!
So so so, the only ideas I have are wearing thick grey/black tights with my chunky-ish boots, oversized cardigan and scalf? Which is reasonably standard but might tone down the sailor aspect... however I don't know how long I could do this for as it's actually starting to be above freezing in the mornings now (dare I say spring?). or as a friend said, just embrace the sailor! Any ideas? Oh and if you're thinking "do NOT wear that for any reason other than fancy dress" please just say it, I'd rather know than look like a eejit. Dress:  The back is pretty much the same and the little 'braces' things cross over at the back. (RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance

I've seen these sorts of dresses around everywhere. And it doesn't make you look like a sailor. Yes, it's a nautical themed dress, but it's a new trend going on at the moment, nautical trend. Just wear accessories with it that you'd wear with any other dress.
It's lovely on you btw

I really wouldn't think ''SAILOR'' if I someone in the street wearing that. Seriously. It's actually just really cute.
What you have planned with it sounds good to me.

I agree, this dress is absolutely gorgeous on you. If you're really feeling the sailor vibe then a cardigan would be very nice with it as well.

I love this dress!
 My first thought was not sailor, and I think you could certainly wear it in warmer weather, without a cardigan or scarf.

That would look really nice with black tights and a red scarf, right now. I wouldn't go with grey on this one, but looks nice

Im a male so womens dresses arent first on my best topics.. but I love it
It looks really nice (for a woman obviously!)Wear it like that its fine, it'll look great in the summer (if your in UK) Its cute haha. I wouldnt think sailor. |

Yay, so I decided you guys were right and I've worn it today with black tights but ohhhh my gosh I didn't realise how short it was until I got on the bus, it hardly covers my bum and I defintley can't bend over! Ah well, in future I'll just wear skinny jeans or somethinng.
Oh I'm wearing it with a grey Cardigan and I think it looks fine with grey but that's just me thanks for the advice, maybe I just had sailors on the brain! It's sailory enough for a sailor costume right? With a hat and stuffs. (RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance
