Importance of brands? - April 9th 2010, 06:02 PM

How important are brands to you when buying clothes? Personally, I really don't care.

I don't bother looking at brands.
If I like something and I can afford it I will get it and wear it no matter what brand.
If I like something that has a brand or is designer I can usually find a copy of it in a shop like New Look or H&M that is pretty much the same but half the price because it doesn't have a brand on it.

I tend to stick with the same brand of shoe though because I know they are comfortable and don't give me blisters.

I wouldn't not wear something because it wasn't brand name, but I do prefer a lot of name brand stores. The clothes fit me well and are well made, so I like them.

I personally find that brands are a way to find clothes in the same style, and they're better quality and will last longer usually. If I saw an unlabelled hoodie and a Death Kitty brand one, I'd always go for the latter, simply because of the construction...

I buy almost all my clothes secondhand so I don't really care. That is, unless I find a piece of designer clothing at a ridiculously low price which I will always buy as an investment.

Brands are overrated, I don’t usually go for brands if I like something I get it and f it has a brand name oh well. The only brand I tend to stick by is Zara.

I dont go and buy brands, I buy what I like, I get most of my clothes from charity shops, if they are branded, then they are branded. If not, then it makes no difference.

The only things I have to wear that are branded are shoes, I have to wear branded shoes/trainers/sneakers...

I like some designers, but I won't even pretend I have the money most of the time. I like nicely made clothes, but on my budget it's usually old clothes / really cheap (ultimately) disposable clothes that I buy.

I buy whatever i like (and can afford). I must admit branded clothing is usually of better quality and therefore occassionally i will save up for something branded, but other than that i opt for cheap and cheerful such as primark stuff, new look etc. I don't get what the whole fascination is with converse though.... i mean their canvas shoes are pretty flimsy, which is one example of a brand lacking in quality :P

I like brand clothes but tbh they're ridiculously expensive for what they are. You pay £50 for a jacket when you could get a similar one for about £20 at New Look. The only reason the other one is expensive is because of the tag stitched into it.

I'm quite happy wearing stuff from Primark, New Look, Select, TK Maxx, I won't pay more than I need to.

I've only got one thing that is actually a brand and I didn't actually buy it myself xD It's really not something that's important to me; when I buy myself clothes it's because I like them, not whether they're a certain brand etc. Their are certain brands that I love [Iron Fist <3] but that's not the thing that I'd look for.

Ditto lol. Clothing brands aren't really important to me, if I like something I'll buy it whether it's from a cheap Asian store or a big designer brand store.

I buy clothes based on how they look on me and how they feel. The brand name doesn't matter really, although I tend not to go for low-quality clothes because I don't really get a good wear out of them. But I wouldn't ever really be able to afford labels very often anyway

I don't care about brands. They only reason I'll stick with one brand is because the clothes fit me well. For example, I basically only buy American Eagle jeans now, because they're the only ones that fit me, but I only buy them when they're on sale

I generally go for clothes that i like rather than brands that i like.. BUT there are a few certain brands that are my favourites and i tend to own a lot of clothes from each of them. Just seems to work out that way.

I do care about brands when I go shopping. There are certain brands that I will prefer over other because I have good experience with clothes of a certain brand. It's definitely not the most important thing I look for in clothing.

For me it's price first, then the style, then the fit, then the brand. I have certain limit to what I spend on a certain article of clothing. (Ex. I don't spend more than X amount of dollars on jeans.)

There are certain stores that I shop at, but I'm always welcome to trying new ones.
Old Navy is my favorite store because I know what I fit in there, so shopping there is a breeze. It's quick and easy and I don't have to stop and try something on. Plus I know the quality is good and that it'll last me.

So, in a nutshell, I think that brands matter because you know what to expect.
I don't like the brands that advertise the store across the front though. I feel like a walking advertisement

Usually, I could care less. If I'm at the mall and I go to a store like Kohl's, the brand doesn't matter at all, except in jeans. For jeans, I always get them at stores like Old Navy or Gap, or Levis. But for shirts and other kinds of pants, I could care less. I do find that certain brands are more flattering on me though, so I do like to stick to them sometimes. But in most stores it doesn't matter.

I think that brands are kind of dying out, like abercrombie and hollister. Our society is kind of gearing towards a more fashion forward look, like clothes from H&M-again a brand but a much different brand from the old ones, instead of charging $100 for a sweater you can buy one for $30 which is awesome. Brands aren`t necessarily important to me but the clothes that a brand hosts is very important to me because I can identify where I want to buy clothes that fit my style.

I guess I'm pretty brand-loyal, I always buy levis jeans, creative recreation shoes, shorts and shirts from j. crew, mountain hardwear jackets, etc. I hate obnoxious logos on anything except athletic clothes though. I'm really hard to fit so I usually stick with a brand once I find out it works for me.

I totally agree with this!

Many newer fashion forward retailers have come out such as H&M have come out and can sell clothes for a lower price that young trendy people can afford. The fact that there is so much competition in the market and younger people are more into fashion this past decade allows for lower prices.

Not important, most my stuff is from cheaper highstreet shops and primark

but I like branded clothing not because of the brand necessarily but because it tends to be better quality and lasts longer. primark clothes, let's face it, are very much one season items because they fall apart. You get what you pay for. The cut is just nicer, the material tends to be better quality and they last longer. Designer shoes, for example, you can get a good 5/6 years out of. Whereas the flat ballet type shoes I buy for £15-30 last 6 months. In the long run you'd make a saving, it's just the inital investment. Or if you're like me and get bored easily!

I also don't like knock offs. If I were going to buy uggs I'd buy the real thing because otherwise it's just... IDK "everyone knows you're wearing fake uggs" shame. Hard to explain.

Brands help me identify which jeans are going to fit well =D And which shoes won't hurt my feet. It's not that I want THATPARTICULARBRANDORELSE; it's just that I know what fits and looks nice, so if my need for a certain type of item (i.e., jeans) is greater than my desire to shop around, I'll do a brand. But I don't buy something JUST because of a brand. It's a starting place when I've got no other options.

it depends on the item im buying. jeans i will deffintatly splurge and pay hundreds for. plain white teeshirts=target. the polos i wear to school, lacoste. it all depends on how you treat the clothing. if you buy a few pairs of expensive jeans they will last much longer and in the long run be cheaper to maintain
