Opinions on buying these dresses? - July 29th 2010, 10:47 PM

In a nutshell:

- I am currently losing weight so that I get to a healthy weight
- so my dress size is going down
- I have not been shopping as my clothes will become too big for me
- the online shop ASOS is having a massive sale and there are some clothes there that I have wanted for a long time and really like

I am wondering whether to buy these dresses in a size smaller than I currently am. The concerns are that
- I could not lose more weight and then they'd never fit
- I ideally will eventually be smaller than that size so they won't fit then

But I think the dresses I am looking at would be *ok* a bit too big as well if you get me. I'm also not so big that I wouldn't be able to try a size smaller on to see whether it would suit me, but I am quite good at knowing what will/won't look good on me and my body shape from just looking at it.

I was planning on going shopping anyway before Uni.

My mum says I should buy several dresses because we both think I will get down to this size in another 4-6 weeks, so before I go to uni.

These are the dresses:
1) http://www.asos.com/Mango/Mango-Thre...t=-1&clr=Cream
(I really like it, imagine with chucky necklace and accessories and in winter would be good with tights and boots and a scalf)
I think that even if this did become slightly too big you could just put a belt round that tighter waist bit and it would be fine.

2) "ASOS Emroidered Woven Cut Out Dress" - in black
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Embroi...=White%2fCream
What I mean by I think that it would look okay even if it was a bit baggy is that that kind of top does tend to look okay a bit too big? I probably wouldn't wear this dress as a dress, but with leggings or skinny jeans. Do you think that would look okay?

There are quiteeee a lot of other dresses that I like!
3) "ASOS Aztec Animal Print Sundress"
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Aztec-...t=-1&clr=Print
4) "ASOS Floral Chiffon Shirred Waist Dress" ... I like this dress because it's so 'every day' in a way but out of them all I like it the least.
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Floral...t=-1&clr=Print
5) "ASOS Belted Tie Back Dress"
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Belted...lr=Silver+Grey
6) "Mango 2 In 1 Stripe Dress"
http://www.asos.com/Mango/Mango-2-In...rt=-1&clr=Grey
7) "ASOS Pleated Neck Jersey Empire Dress"
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Pleate...rt=-1&clr=Nude

Also I know they all look very short but remember these models are crazy tall and when I've bought dresses that looked short on the website before they were just normal on me because I'm on the short size of average

What do you think? Sorry I know this is a random thread.. I just don't know what I should do really.

Several options

1) Buy nothing
2) Buy just one or two dresses I really like and that aren't that expensive
3) Buy a few dresses

Only two of the links are working for me

The mango dress would defiantly be fine if it was a bit baggy, and like you said, you can always put a waist belt on.

The jersey empire waist dress (your last link) is gorgeous and nice and cheap! Defiantly!!

Also, if you buy the lower size then you will lose the weight because you'll want to fit into it

Copy and paste the names of the other links and I'll look them up ^_^

I've fixed the links but incase they don't work again I've put the names as well.

I'm always drawn towards buying the dresses with a pattern so I've tried to limit myself because now I don't have many plainer dresses that can be worn in a very casual way but then even plain dresses can be dressed up with heels and nice accessories.

So I think if I were going to buy some I'd buy
- Embroided Woven Cut Out one (£28)
- Aztec Animal one (£18)
- Jersey Empire one (£15)

And then I can't decide both of the Mango ones? Possibly the first shirty one I posted because it's more every day?

If you haven't noticed I like dresses. A lot.

Re: Opinions on buying these dresses? - July 30th 2010, 12:13 AM

Embroidered Woven Cut Out Dress is cute! A bit short and the model whos wearing it is doing it awfully. You'd want a waist belt with it too. But yeah. Like that a lot. I think you'd have to have a good defined neck though because the necklines a bit strange, or long dangly earrings/big necklace to even it out. I like the cream/black one.

The Aztec Animal Print Sundress is super super cute. Defiantly get that one. And that would be fine with a bit of baggyness in it.

The Floral Chiffon Shirred Waist Dress is super cute again but in an understated way. You could go crazy with accessories. That would be fine with a bit of baggyness as well.

Belted Tie Back Dress...not too keen. I think you have to have a very flat stomach for that (like super washboard). Plus its very officey.

Number 7 isnt working for me. But number 6, 2 In 1 Stripe Dress is cute, but not overly cute for that amount of money. It depends what your budget is completely. But yeah, cute and could do with some baggyness. Also you could accessorize it really nicely.

Re: Opinions on buying these dresses? - July 30th 2010, 12:23 AM

Number 7 was the one you saw already, and as it's £15 I'm defintley going to get that one!

Yeah I get what you mean about the bow back one and a flat stomach, I wish they had non-stick models showing what these dresses look like on women with meat on their bones lol! And yeah I think you're right about the Mango 2 in 1 dress.

Hmmmmm!!
I might not get any of the mango ones as they're both expensive.

So if I got the Embroided Woven Cut out dress, Aztec Dress, Floral Chiffon Dress and the Jersey Empire dress that would be £82 in total which is good for 4 dresses but perhaps not for 4 dresses I can't wear yet. Lol. BUT it would certainly be motivating to make me lose the weight!!

I know that the Embroided Woven Cut out dress is very short... I wouldn't want to wear it like that (and yes that model is so awkward! Her catwalk is terrible!) but I was thinking it would be nice with some slim cut jeans?

Thank you so much for your help by the way!

I'm still pondering about which to buy.

Wear it with leggings and boots and a long cardigan or something

I think the list you did...

is great, although if you want to save money, the obvious one to drop is the embroided woven cut out dress. It is a bit short and bleh. Its cute but is it really £28.00 worth of cute? Its up to you

You can always 'save' all of these (its under the add to bag button) and keep checking. The price might drop again with the embroidered one. Baring in mind asos put their prices back up again sometimes

You're welcome. You've cheered me up talking about clothes

Aw I really like the Embroided Woven Cut out one and have since it first came up, but £55 worth it is not. So I do like that one a lot

And oh my gosh this one comes in Green as well!

http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Pleate...rt=-1&clr=Nude

I'm thinking about getting it in Green!! Which colour do you think is best? Green is a bit of a weird green but I love green so much and it's a bit different considering that Chiffon one is also pink-ey so similar to nude.

Shopping always cheers me up, quite bad really!

Ooh I like the green... I didn't even look last time. I think the green would suit your colouring nicely.

and I know what its like to want something for ages and then you see it on sale. Love it. Get the cut out one too then because it'll just bug you if you don't and they sell out.

Re: Opinions on buying these dresses? - July 30th 2010, 05:05 PM

- not my style but i like the pattern. would definitely look good with a belt so if it got a big big it wouldn't matter.

- would probably wear this as a dress but it depends how long it is when you try it on. things always look shorter on the models cos they're like 3953498 ft. tall.

- LOVE this. think i'm gunna buy it actually. with a little cardi and pumps, but could also dress it up.

- quite plain but you could wear a chunky necklace and be a bit more adventurous with jewellery then.

love the back, would definitely get this one.

don't really like this one. don't like the bottom half of it, idk.. just looks a bit odd.

- i like this, not sure about the colour though.

Fankooo Elle. What do you think about the last one in green? They also only have in it 2 sizes smaller than my current size.. but it is £15!

I can't see the green one.

It's the same as the last one posted but in green. I think I prefer the green (though my sister hates it, hah)

http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Pleate...rt=-1&clr=Nude

You have to select "green" from the colour drop down menu

Weird. I took a screen shot for you. Sorry couldn't be bothered to crop

Um if I spend £18 more I get free next day delivery so I might just do that then return something (for free). Cheeky

thats so odd, maybe i'm being dim but on my computer i see no green on the website haha.
but i prefer the nude actually. maybe its because i don't really wear green but i think the nude could be more versatile.

Oh no!

Maybe we should get a whole thread dedicated to ASOS discussion and what we're thinking about buying

They are taking time to make Asos a better place
I do like the green but it also depends on how it looks on you, I like how green looks in me I actually have a very similar green shirt like the color of the dress right now.
