Using oils to tan? -
April 12th 2011, 05:03 PM
Hello!
i have always had a very pale complexion, but now that summer is coming around its time to pull out the bikini and im desperately in need of a tan! My best friend and I are planning on going out to the lake next week and sunbathing. She suggested using Emu Oil to hlp us tan, but I cant really find anything online about whether or not that would actually help darken our skin and avoid burn or if it would be harmful to our skin. Im also not sure whether we should try to tan our faces with oil or not..I would really apreciate any suggestions! Thanks

Oh my gosh, please don't use oils to tan
You should be putting sunscreen on your faces if you don't want cancer or to get burned. You can still tan even with sunscreen on, though you need to keep reapplying it and not stay out for too long. Be smart, please. Get sunscreen all along your hairline, chin, neck, and ears because the skin cancer rates are rising fast and most of them are due to over exposure to the sun in those places. Use good sunscreen that will protect your skin and you can still get tan, and put it absolutely everywhere that will be exposed (even your the tops and bottoms of your feet).
"Love me for me, accept the fact I'm true, live like I want, fufill my dreams, Dream of me, run out free, capture your words and never let them go." I'll see you on the other side. |

If you want to get skin cancer, go ahead and use tanning oils. If you want to get a tan without skin cancer, I would suggest sunless tanning products, or a high spf sunscreen and spending short amounts of time laying out rather than a whole long day.

That is a very bad idea. While it might help you tan more quickly, it puts at risk for skin cancer which is a serious and potentially fatal disease. It is very important to use sunscreen on every part of your body that is going to be exposed to the sun. You will still get tan if you use sunscreen and your risk of sun cancer will be greatly decreased.
