Question Ball/prom help? - June 21st 2011, 05:39 PM

Okay, so the school leavers ball is in a few weeks, and I'm stuck with a few things....

The dress

Due to family situations and exams, I can't go out to the city to pick a dress, so I've been looking online. I really like this one:

http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/JS+Co...efault,pd.html

But I'm not sure what size I am. So, I don't know if I want to buy it online. Then what do I wear under it? I don't have a strapless bras. Also, my period is due around the day of the ball. And I have kp on my legs. But because Im short, the knee length dress might be longer for me, so that's not too bad. Obviously, I can't have a long dress, because it would drag on the floor. My friend suggested wearing really thin silk black tights, but what shoes do you wear with that?

Hair, makeup, accessories, jewellery

I've never had my hair styled. I don't even know what layering and feathering are. I'm having my haircut soon, but I don't know what style would suit me. I have long brown hair, and I want it sort of half up half down for the ball, but I don't know. I hate my eyebrows as well lol. I've never worn makeup (due to the fact I can't go out and I've go nowhere to keep makeup). I don't want the ball, to be the first time to wear makeup. My friend suggested white glitter eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss, and nail varnish. Good idea? I have no idea what clutch bag to get, since I don't have one. I found a necklace I like but I don't know if it would suite the dress:

And finally...

I don't even know if I can get there. Seriously. If I take a train/bus to the ball, I have to walk to get to the station, which takes half hour, and if it rains then that would be a disaster. I don't want to do my hair and have to walk for half hour, just to get to the station. If I did do that, I would have to leave the ball early, because trains and buses don't run all night! By the way, we don't have a car. We have been advised not to get a taxi by yourself, since they can be dodgy round where I live. That's why they advise girls to stick together, but all my "friends" have booked hotel rooms without telling me, so they are planning on going there earlier and then get ready for the ball, so no-one needs a taxi. I thought of asking my relatives but they might be working or away somewhere. I was thinking of asking my best friend, since she lives not too far from the ball is being held. But she will be on holiday. In an ideal world, I would love to hire a limo, but again I would be the only one who needed it. The only other person who I could ask, is my old teacher who I keep in contact with, but she has work the next day, so I don't think that would be a good idea.

Sorry, I really did try to keep this short lol

As far as the dress, measure yourself and look at their sizing charts and as far as tights, I would actually go with either a nude color or a white color tight. Black tights with the dress would be too much black and it would look a bit off putting, you either wanna do nude or white. As far as what kind of shoe, I would go with a closed toed black pump with a splash of color in the shoe. Whatever shoe you do get I would keep it closed toe. No strappy heel. I find strappy heels with wearing tights is not a very cute look. I think the necklace would go very well with it.

As far as make up I would keep it simple and sweet yet enhancing. I would do a very light thin layer or face make up to make your face an even all over look. I wouldn't even do an eye shadow I would do some very dramatic mascara and eye liner then some lip gloss.

For hair if you said you want to do an up down do. I would have the top half up and then do the bottom in very natural looking curls. It would look really good with the dress.

Always remember to put your happiness first.

A closed toe small heel with white tights would look very nice with the dress ^^

There's always light at the end of a tunnel, even if you have to pass a few bends to see it.

Thanks guys, I did think the black tights were a bad option, but my friend is more fashionable than me. I'll take your advice though

I agree - nude tights. Not sure about white - might make the dress look too black.

Hair
As for hair, I'd ask your hairdresser for advice, but I do think that half up/half down is a lovely look. Or just down with curls, it's a natural, classy look. A loose up-do is good though, with plenty left free to frame your face with a nice sparkly clasp to hold it up.

Shoes
The shoes need to either be black with a bit of glam: a bow, ruffles, sparkly stones or something. OR go for red. Red patent shoes look amazing with black, and then you can paint your nails to match and add some red lipstick if you feel daring - it'll look amazing.

Make-up
Keep the make up simple - if you go for strong lippy, keep your eyes understated, and vice versa. Not too much foundation, a nice blusher to get that rosy natural glow, and maybe a touch of concealer if you need it.
Lipstick - depending on your hair colour, bravery and shoes/accessories you can go with/without. Red can look amazing and very classy, whereas if you don't feel that confident, go for a shade a tiny bit stronger than your lip colour, just to make them look fuller [Add lip liner to round them off]
Eyes - Mascara needs to look full and natural, not clumpy and plastic. Add falsies if you want but they can get annoying
Pale eyeshadow on the lids, a natural, mushroomy brown towards the outer corners to open your eyes up. Add a flick of eyeliner at the upper lash line and blend it all together.

Accessories
Depends on your shoes. If you go for black shoes, see if you can get some with silver detail, like rhinestones [NOT chavvy OTT though] then go for some glitzy drop earrings, maybe some silver bangles or bracelets - nothing too heavy though. Same for a necklace - nothing too clumpy - something nice and delicate. Get a neat little bag, black with a silver clasp?
If you go for coloured shoes, go for something to match. Not too much colour though. Keep your main colour silver to compliment the dress. Maybe for jewellery get something with coloured stones - depends on what you want to spend. Add a red bangle or bracelet to the silver ones, and maybe put a red hair accessory in?

Nails
Red shoes = red nails.
Any other coloured accessories = Nude, well manicured nails [French manicure is classic] with a bit of sparkle if you want it. I'm doing my sister's nails in French Ivory with white flower transfers - you know the ones you stick on and paint over with clear? Hers have a single tiny stone on each and they look really pretty.

Finally, do you have a family member who could drop you off? Maybe ask around the school and see if anyone else is struggling. The more people who join you, the more people to split the limo cost You dont have to stick together when you're there, just for the lift. Or ask your friends if you can share a hotel room with one of them.

Sorry its so long I LOVE this kinda stuff <3

Hope I helped a little bit....proms are so much FUN.

Just a hop, skip and a jump.
