Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle, etc.. - June 28th 2011, 09:26 AM

Am I the only person in this world who hates those clothing stores?
First of all, they only sell clothes for "skinny" people.
Second of all, I could buy the same exact shirt at Khols that they have at Hollister only $50 cheaper. I can sew the little bird on myself.
Third of all, it's a clothing store, but it seems like their advertisments are more about showing off skin, not covering it.

I'm with you. I actually feel awkward walking around any of these shops and I just don't see the appeal.

At least someone agrees! One of my really good friends, whom I love to death, will only wear Hollister and Aeropostale.

I kind of sort of love Hollister...lol I don't like Aeropostale so much, but Hollister and American Eagle are where I get my bottoms, and some shirts. I also get my perfume from Hollister. I may have a few from AE though.. lol

Areopostale mens stuff is perfect fo rme. I could see why people hate it, but I mean all their shirts are square, like jerseys. I like that. Also here at least, jeans are like $60 so I stay away from them (Levis and/or Old Navy is much better and cheaper) but for shirts, you can't beat $8 dollar polos and $4 Tees.

I hate those places too, mainly because you pay THEM to advertise their clothes. And also I hate wearing tight clothing so I typically don't go there.

I agree 100% Everyone looks the same, you can still be fashionable without looking exactly like everyone else. And you are paying them to advertise which is stupid, they should pay you. The clothes don't even look good! Especially those T-Shirts! You can buy all that stuff from cheaper shops and I swear primark is better quality! A 5 year old could make a more durable item, the stiches are not straight and I bet it wouldn't even pass GCSE textiles! Xxx

Basically, wearing anything that has the store name or whatever on it is like saying you have the money to buy the clothing, especially if it's the more expensive ones like Abercrombie & Hollister. I don't like Aeropostale because, in my opinion, they target the "tween" ages. I don't mind American Eagle because I don't get stuff from there that SCREAMS AE, just tanks, the occasional pair of jeans, and a button-down shirt -- all of which were on clearance, anyways.

We don't have any of those stores over here. That being said after some researching, not much, just remebering when I looked it up, some of Hollisters stuff looks good to me and I'd go there. Not sure about the others though.

I'm certain I've seen these shops sell larger sizes, at least what you will find in most stores that aren't specialty shops. They don't particularly cater to those who wear larger sizes, but they are there. If you don't like the clothes, there's no reason for you to shop there! Each company has their own image and style, so they will not suit everyone's tastes. It's up to the consumer to choose whether or not to purchase from these shops.

This, exactly.

I really don't know why I put skinny in quotes. I guess just to make it more pronounced. I guess I could have bolded it instead.
And every Hollister I've been into has NEVER had a t-shirt that would fit me. I did find a pair of pants my size, but when I tried them on, they must have been kids size because I never seen a size [Edited by Fierce] that small.

Personally, I like those stores. Hollister is my favorite. Their clothes are really comfortable. I'm not super skinny or anything. I definitely have curves and their clothes fit me just fine. It may seem like they cater to smaller people, but they do have bigger sizes in their store just like any other place. I also haven't paid anymore for clothes at Hollister than I have at a place like Kohls.

I don't wear name brands. They're over-rated. I always look a TON better in my vintage clothes from thrift stores and yard sales.

And about being trendy, what's the point? Where what you feel the prettiest in. If you don't like how you look or feel in it, don't wear it. :P

BUT, (I think it's mainly Abercrombie)'s advertisements objectify women to no end. People go there to buy clothes, not jerk off to borderline porn.

I like stores like Ross.. Hahaha (:

I do love American Eagle though, I have the cutest shirt from there and when it's on sale it can be really cheap. I've also found a couple shirts from Aero that were in the back and on sale so I ended up getting like two shirts for seven bucks.

It all depends on what I'm in the mood for... However the one store I cannot stand, is Buckle. It's the most ridiculous thing ever, you walk in there and they're all wearing three HUNDRED dollar jeans and looking at you like you suck. My friend made me go in with her once and it reeked like too much cologne and attitude (:

Definitely don't like those shops. First of all, half the time you can't see anything. My friend and I went in Hollister as a joke (just to see if they had anything made of me since I'm not the skinniest and something that we could actually afford) and had to look through prices with the light from our cell phone cause we literally couldn't see anything. Not to mention all those places WREAK of their special colognes and whatnot. Plus I heard from friends that all the clothes kinda fall apart thread by thread. /: So yeah, not a fan. xD

One thing that I find funny is that Hollister carries some of the same EXACT clothes as Abercrombie, but some people will seriously spend more and buy it from Abercrombie.

Must be nice to be able to throw away money all the time

Alright, well I'm just going to admit it and say that I'm addicted to Hollister and Abercrombie clothes.

They're pretty much all that I wear now. Haha. I think that their clothes are really cute and they fit really well. They have clothes for every season and every event which I think is awesome. American Eagle is a good store too but I definitely shop at Hollister and Abercrombie the most. <3

However, I hardly ever shop in Aeropostle unless I find really cute rompers there. (:

I might be crazy.

They do have some cute clothes, but I've never bought anything there, because they're so damn expensive! Plus, I'm not huge on brand names/symbols on my clothes, so the giant HOLLISTER or eagles etc aren't my thing.
Side note- I hate walking into Hollister. It's dark, the music is ridiculously loud, and it feels like someone is shoving their perfume up my nose.

I think hate is a strong word, but I definitely dislike those kinds of stores. I like my clothes cute, but cheap. Kohl's is my answer to this. But like Sam said, Hollister is dark with too-loud music, and I'd also like to add that they need to remember that it's a store, not a forest...so many plants.

I like Hollister... it's not about the label, it's the nice clothing :/ Primark is good too, you can get a lot for only 30 pounds, but holister is like a treat, you save up to buy the nice clothing, Just like shopping at French Conection or even Vans, it's the nice feeling of buying an expensive piece. You just feel good wearing it because you know it was costly. And it's good once you have stopped growing as you can keep it

And, I have a small frame, most cheaper stores don't sel stuff for my frame, the chest area is too large so they look baggy. I have to shop expensive to get clothes that fit. I don't mind because like the stuff in these places. It's not like a 1000 pounds shir or something, it's like 50 pounds :/ which is quite a lot, but it's not what i would say is really awful.

I feel like I am being judged when I walk in shops like that. I feel as though they are advertising perfection, which is unrealistic for us normal people. Also this ---> http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009...unal-riam-dean
I like some of the clothes, but I can't afford them and I personally feel as though I am too fat for them even though I am not overweight. I think I'll stick with primark, asda and tesco for the time being haha!

I would never buy them retail but we have consignment stores here were you can buy used clothes cheap and I got a pair of American eagle jeans and I must say I love them but would never pay like $50 for them.

I don't hate them, I used to though. I buy my jeans and a few shirts from American Eagle and I used to think that they were all for skinny skinny people (which I'm not) but a friend convinced me to try them on and I love their jeans now. And I usually get tanks from Aeropostale, and maybe a few sweatshirts.

I literally can't wear American Eagle clothes, for the most part, because they're for the most part short in the waist, and I'm a bit over average height. I absolutely cannot wear their jeans, because they're way too short on me. The last shirt I bought there -- a really cute design and everything -- I wore it like all of three times, then dropped a lot of weight and gained a bit more in the chest area and shot up like another two inches, so I was unable to wear it without looking completely deformed.

I'd like to punch the clothes-makers for thinking we're all sticks with legs and a brain. For crying out loud, can't they make something that's flattering to a girl with curves, for once? It's just all... Flat, lol. And most clothes I buy at other places are exactly the same. I only rarely come across a shirt that actually looks good on me.

Eh.

EDIT: And don't even get me started on Hollister. I can't even go in that store.

It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

I feel uncomfortable just walking past A&F and Hollister, let alone go into the shop! Its as if they give out a "you aren't cool enough to shop here" vibe.
Though my favourite hoodie is from Aeropostale, and only because my dad got it for me when I was in Canada.

Personally, the only brand I wear remotely like that is Aeropostal because they have cheap prices, and don't advertise like the rest of the stores. I also shop at buckle for jeans. They are EXTREMELY exspensive, but they are american made, confortable, and are well made. Aside from that, I dress for comfort. Therefore I shop at Target.

Honestly I'm pretty indifferent about it all lol. Granted my fashion is either a white v-neck tshirt or band t-shirts. I guess my fashion wouldnt be suited to those kinds of shops.
