How to get rid of chapped lips?

No idea where to put this... sorry :')



But basically, my lips are chapped and icky. They're really dry, and I used to bite the skin all the time (though I've stopped now.)

I've tried:
exfoliating with sugar/toothbrush/towel
carmex
blistex
vaseline (cocoa butter/aloe vera/normal/sunblock/rose. all of them.)
okay, pretty much every lip moisturiser known to mankind.


Any suggestions of what else to do? I don't wear lip gloss or lip stick, it's just I hate the way they look and feel. All scratchy and ick.

It is good not to wear any lip gloss or lipstick on your lips unless it is a hydrating one, they make your lips more dry and become even more chapped. I always used chapstick, it comes in many flavours and it works really well. It is applied like lipstick and does feel a bit like it at first, but it has always worked in my experience.
If you do not like that, go to your nearest boots/superdrug store and see what they reccomend there. If that fails your local pharmacy might be a good idea too.
It is also a good idea to drink lots of water to keep your lips moist and to stay out of the sun as much as possible, not that you'll have much problem with that here today Try not to lick your lips too much and definately stay away from biting them! If this is causing you really bad problems and you cannot find anything that works, it might be worth seeing your doctor. Good Luck Xxx

Brushing my lips with a toothbrush has always worked really well for me!

You could try getting something with really heavy moisturizers and using that overnight, after exfoliating. Remember to try and not bite your lips and like Melissa said, drink a lot of water.

I apply chapstick almost constantly, I have some that tastes like rootbeer, it makes me smile (:! However, I realize that most people don't want to be applying chapstick every ten minutes like I do!

I would try to exfoliate them more often, and (this might seem very weird/drastic) but if they're that bad, you try exfoliating, then putting on some vaseline/carmex, then putting a hot washcloth on them? It might help to get them moisturized.

It's so sunny here today actually! Really warm too :')

Thanks for the advice you two. I actually do apply vaseline every 10 minutes, but it gives me all these horrid little blackheads around my mouth o.o

I'll try drinking more water, and the washcloth thing. Nothing is too drastic, it's been like this for years!

Oh yeah the blackheads are no good.

That's just because your pores are getting clogged, try keeping it on your lips, or use carmex because that actually can help get rid of zits. (My best friend's cousin swears by carmex).

I forgot... you should try and buy a sugar lip scrub, I have one from lush, it's expensive but it works and tastes good (I recomend bublegum)!

So, I know those lovely ladies have already given suggestions but after you use their ideas, have you tried a more natural chap stick? I recently discovered Burts Bee's which is on the expencive side of lip chaps, but it works wonders for me and it's supposed to be all natural stuff so I'm thinking maybe it won't give you the blackheads around your mouth like the Vaseline. Just a small suggestion, but I wish you all the luck

My absolute favorite chapstick I've ever used is LypSyl. Check out their website here: http://www.lypsylhome.com/
I picked mine up from Walgreen's, but I think I've also seen it in Walmart. I can't remember whether I have the one with SPF or not, but if you're going out at all, you should wear some chapstick with SPF in it to avoid sunburning your lips. Your lips are probably the place that people most neglect to protect when it comes to sun damage, and sun damage can make your lips dry and cracked.

As tempting as it is, I would suggest stopping exfoliating your lips completely with anything like a toothbrush or sugar scrub until your lips are healed. I rub my fingers across my lips when I'm in the shower and it removes excess skin without being too harsh. You need to treat your lips like you treat your skin-- very gently and not over exfoliate.

One more thing I would suggest is Aquaphor lip oil, or really any kind of lip oil. People who are on Accutane, a very harsh medication used to treat acne that has the side effect of extremely dry and chapped lips for most people, absolutely swear by Aquaphor for the most part.
