Ways to Cut a Shirt - August 12th 2011, 06:53 AM

My sister just gave me like 20 white v-neck shirts.

I wear one for going out at least once a week, a few for working out, & maybe another for around the house. I totallyyy don't need 20 shirts.

So I was thinking maybe I'd cut some of them to look really cute in different styles. Any suggestions? Pictures or links would be greatly appreciated.

My friends at school cut the sides in half. Then cut about 2 in. strips and tie them together. xP I'd show a pic, but I don't have one.

I've done that with shirts before. I'll probably do that with one shirt. I'm also looking for ways to cut off the sleeves. Thanks!

Girls on my softball team cut the sleeves to like right below their bra.
I don't really find it attractive though. xP

This youtube channel has lots of videos on how to cut shirts. I've watched a few and tried them and they worked well

Re: Ways to Cut a Shirt - August 12th 2011, 02:30 PM

For shirts that are too big (I have wayyy too many hand me down band tshirts) I cut up the back in half, cut strips in the back, then tie them together. I don't know how well it'd work for a FITTING shirt, but you could always improvise Like, cut some off in the back, poke holes, then thread a ribbon, other shirt, I've even done a shoelace.

I made a corset like that once Took an old Pink Floyd tshirt, cut off everything above the sleeves, cut the back in half, poked holes, then laced a pink shoelace through

I don't know how big the shirts are, but I've also made a halter dress out of one that I wear with leggings and shit. Just cut off the sleeves, cut off the top hem, then cut off a halter. like. thingy. I have no idea how to describe that part You'd just have to look at it and figure it out. I know I cut two strips out of the fabric, and I tie them in the back. But the shirt is so big though, that I've also had to cut open the sides and re-hem them or else it'd just look like an awkward baggy thing ._.

As for the sleeves, you could always just cut those off and make it a tanktop You'd probably have to hem it up a little bit, or else they'd be large holes. Unless you like it like that ._. Or you could make it like, an off the shoulder thing by making the top hem bigger or gone. Then you could just cut little strips into the sleeves and make it purty

I know you could also make bags out of them, headbands, skirts, shorts, even swimsuits if you have the urge for a white bikini. ._. But I haven't done any of those yet And the skirt I did turned out terrible. I don't really have any pictures though, because I just looked at the shirt and figured out what I wanted to do, but I have no doubt that you can find some online.

There's some website/book thing called 99 ways to sew, trim, and tie your tshirt or something like that.

If they're all, all white you might want to play around with decorating them too. You can buy fabric paint or fabric markers pretty cheap. Sometimes I say screw it and use sharpies It lasts a few washes before I have to redo it, maybe 20 or so, but I don't wear the same shirt too often anyway, because I have all these hand me downs

Anyway, google is your friend. But your best friend is your own imagination.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

This is what I did to one of the shirts last night. I cut off the sleeves & cut the back, but left the collar. So the shirt can stay up, but there's back showing & I also did the strips thing. It looks cute. & These shirts are small, but they're not skin-tight, ya know? But they're not huge. Even though I tied them, it still fits well.

Here are a couple of pictures. I didn't like how my hair looked, so I cropped most of my head out.

Obviously I would wear a different colored bra or bandeau, I just happened to be wearing a white bandeau already for another outfit & didn't feel like changing.
