I do like thrifting. It's hard sometimes because I'm of a smaller size for men's, and it's generally hard to find good sizes whether in a thrift store, department store, fashion store, etc. If there's a favourite thrift store you like shopping at, ask staff the when their new shipments usually come in, so on the following day you can be among the first to choose from it.

My best buy was a pair of pants that were originally from H&M, but found in the thrift store. The material is mostly polyester, so there isn't much wear and tear on it. If you plan on buying polyester, I think it's a good idea to check out thrift stores before you look to buy it new.

I go to thrift stores with some regularity, as well as clothing swaps. I now hate spending money on clothes when most of wardrobe is full of things I spent no money on.

Ahh I would love to go thrifting but there are no thrift stores where I live

Oh, I love thrift stores. Like all my clothing comes from them. I love just looking around for things that look good.

My favorite finds, I once found a beautiful dress that I love. I got myself a suit uniform one time, and a black leather coat that I love.

Re: Thrifting! - August 17th 2011, 08:06 PM

I agree with you, Maeve; When I have found things cheep at a thrift store, I really don't want to pay full price for something similar at a regular store.

I went thrifting a while back and managed to find three dresses, one skirt, one top and a belt (a high quality one, for that matter), for the same money I would have got some boring, casual dress at a regular store! I did have to make some small alterations to some of the clothes (shorten hemlines, add another layer of material to the bottom and such), but the alterations were cheep, and things I could do at home!

I found another dress at another thrift store that had a gorgeous pattern and cut, for a low cost as well. I just had to cut out the shoulderpads (easy peasy) and BAM! a gorgeous dress, that can be either fancy or casual, depending on how I wear it!

I'm thinking about going to my two (possibly three) favourite thrift stores in my town next tuesday (the day before school starts again), just to see if I find something interesting to "update" my wardrobe or whatever before school starts, without having to spend too much money. And it'll be the day, or possibly two days, after the new things arrive!

I love it!! Finding new clothes is such a thrill - especially when you know no one else will have them haha.

My tips and advice:
1. Always try things on! It may look ridiculous on the hanger, but if you try it on, it may be a perfect fit . I've found many dresses this way

2. Never buy something unless you absolutely LOVE it.
- When I find a piece that I know I can't live without, I end up wearing it all the time. However, the things I only sort-of like end up in the back of my closet with the other things I never wear. Best advice my mother ever gave me ^.

Alexa: Great tips! I think it's so easy to "over-buy" just because it's cheeper than in regular stores. It really is a good tip to just buy if you love it, and the same goes for always trying things on!

Eliza-Grace: Thanks! That's an amazing deal!
