bra showing? - September 12th 2011, 07:31 PM

Alright so I want to something more fem, I do dress like a boy pretty much all the time but I have experimented with lighter colors and girly stuff. I get there is some work out people who wear baggy shirts and a sports bra, but while watching NY ink i noticed a receptionist was wearing a very cute black shirt with the sleeves baggy than normal and you can see the sides of her bra and keep in mind the bra was VERY classy looking. I actually liked it, it was daring and cute kind of in my opinion and than I saw Effy from SKINS do it during the 4th episode i think.

What do you guys think? To skanky for normal wear or kind of daring?

I think that having your bra showing is silly, and can look trashy. I see it the same as having your underwear hanging out.

I personally hate when my bra shows by accident, nevermind on purpose. I think it looks trashy on some people, sometimes not so much. It really depends on the person and how they present themselves with that type of style. So, try it out and see if you like it I guess.

I don't mind my bra showing.

In fact, I own some tops which do show the sides or back of my bra.

But when I wear them, my mum tells me to go upstairs and change :'D <3

I own a top which has holes in the sides... So my bra shows... A lot of girls I know where them for dancing, or on hot days.
I like them on the right people.

I also think tops which hang off one shoulder look nice... Like just showing the strap of your bra. But make sure you're not wearing revealing/suggestive bottoms because that can make you look cheap

I don't think one shoulder tops are meant to be worn with the bra strap showing.

Playing bra peekaboo isn't very classy-looking, quite honestly.

I'm going to be completely different with my answer...

It is a new fashion, lately, to wear a shirt with a bra showing. In most cases, I find it hot. If you wear a cute bra underneath or one that goes with the shirt, it looks really good. A lot of reality shows I watch...for example, the real L word, they all wear that style.

I only show my bra straps if im wearing a tank top that fits like that. just the straps though. sometimes i even play it up by wearing a bright colored bra under a black top. but you can't see the cup backstrap.

I know what you are talking about, and it did look cute on Effy. However, I think it is a little too revealing for me to try

I think it depends on the shirt, and how much is showing. Sometimes, my bra strap doesn't get completely covered by m y tank top, so I don't really see a problem with this. And if it's a cute bra, and you're not seeing half her breast, I really don't have a problem with it. I've seen it look very cute, and I've seen it look very trashy.

At the risk of sounding like a school handbook, underwear is for wearing under your clothes.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

When I wear tank tops or such, I wear a bandeau so there are no straps, but all of the important areas are covered. Or I just take the straps off my bra so it's strapless. But when I'm working out, I do wear white shirts or other types of shirts that show my sports bras, but that's because they're bright colors & I think they're cute.

It depends on the style for me. It's okay if they show with like a tank top or something, but don't just have like half of your bra hanging out of your shirt without it being part of the style. I'll admit, though, that no matter how many times I adjust the straps, they still fall down my arm and show, though, and I usually don't notice, so I guess I might be kind of hypocritical.

I absolutely hate it when mine shows I'm just that kind of girl who doesn't like mine to show, but I do own some shirts that show the back of it or the sides of it occasionally and that doesn't bug me but ugh I just hate it, but if it's someone else's I don't really mind because it's their choice.

For one-shoulder tops or the like, I use a strapless. I don't think it's cute to show your bra accidentally-on-purpose, which is how it looks to me when girls where their clothes like this.

Wow some real hatred for this style! I don't think it looks *that* bad. I wouldn't wear it myself but thats because I have larger boobs so I'm very self-conscious about displaying the size of my boobs at all, let alone showing off my bra. Butt I've seen lots of girls work it.. I reckon you should only try it if you have a pretty small cup size though, or it will look trashy sad but true!

I'm kinda half and half. I think in some ways, it is okay, but in others not.

Like I am fine with the shoulder straps showing, cause in a way sometimes like under a shirt, could just look like a tank top. But when it gets to the cup and the back strap showing, I feel like that is a bit more "trashy" looking. Though in some ways it looks okay. I think it sometimes just depends on the person, and how they are wearing it.

I don't think that look is trashy if it's done right :P If the top is nice, and your bra is nice then why not! I have no problem with people showing the sides of their bra...I think that's more acceptable than wearing dresses or tops with wayyy too much cleveage showing. I mean there's a difference between showing your bra, and showing your boobs. At the moment in Australia (at least where I'm from), casual dresses where the top half is kinda sheer are really popular. So your bra is covered, but the top is a bit see through, so you can still see it. I think that kind of fashion is pretty accepted now days. I don't think anyone here looks at girls who wear these dresses as trashy! Just be careful about where you choose to wear the outfit is all I would say!

They're meant to be worn like that as far as I know... otherwise you'd have boobs hanging out left right and centre :')

Personally, I think that when the back or sides of the bra show, it just looks like you are wearing an ill-fitting top. I don't think it's a good look. And I think it looks ridiculous when people wear brightly coloured bras under white shirts (girls used to do that in their school uniforms at my school).

But I don't think there is anything wrong with having straps showing as long as they match the top and don't look that noticeable. Some shirts don't have sleeves that will cover bra straps and strapless bras aren't always a great choice - I doubt they offer much support. And honestly, would anyone really know the difference between bra straps and the straps of a singlet top?

Maybe it is a cultural thing though? It's quite acceptable to wear singlet tops and have bra straps showing in my city.

It depends on how much is showing. I think that in moderation it can be okay, as long as you aren't doing it to attract the wrong kind of attention. Be sure to balance it out with somewhat modest bottoms, though

Re: bra showing? - September 18th 2011, 06:10 PM

I absolutely refuse to have any part of my bra showing when there are guys around. I really don't care with girls, but with guys it's like a taunt. It's putting what they can't have right in front of their faces in a distasteful way. Guys get distracted by bras showing and some guys are trying to keep themselves from thinking lustful things and girls who show their bras off are just making it harder for them. Also, it makes things hard for boyfriends. If you were going out with a guy and you really liked him, would you like some random chick showing off her bra for him to look at and think about? No, I want my guy to think about me and only me and I don't need other girls showing off their bras for him to get distracted by.

Showing your bra won't make boys think you look "cute" or "daring" or whatever, it'll make them look at you in a lustful way-- as in they will want to have sex with you because you're dressing like you want to have sex with them.

I'm sorry, but that is absolutely ridiculous. I suppose you also think that girls should wear bulky jumpers all the time because otherwise a guy might realise that she has breasts and want to have sex with her. And should we also wear long pants all the time because otherwise a guy might see our bare legs and want to have sex with us?

To suggest that women need to be responsible for what men do and think is just wrong, and offensive to both men and women. If someone's boyfriend is looking at another girl, that is entirely his choice. How can you possibly blame a girl for someone checking her out? She doesn't have superpowers that force people to look at her. Besides of which, men are not children who are incapable of controlling themselves. And women should be allowed to wear what they feel comfortable in without being subjected to such criticism and judgmentalness from other women. Honestly, I think it is far "trashier" to bitch about other women's choices of clothes than it is to have your bra straps showing.

You're making judgements about me just the same by making assumptions about all my values. People make judgements and criticisms, it's how people work, and that's fine you made those judgements, but they're completely wrong.

Having boobs and legs isn't under our control-- but what we wear is. Underwear should be worn under something. The most respectable men have problems looking at women in the wrong ways. I don't think women are respecting themselves if they dress with their bra showing. Women can't be completely responsible for what men do and think, and I did not say that, but women can at least do something to prevent getting negative, lustful attention. There's a difference between checking a girl out because she's pretty and checking out a girl because she's showing her bra.
