Talking Please Help-Valentine's Dance Coming Up Soon - January 29th 2012, 11:30 PM

Hi. So my question is : My school's Valentine's dance is being held extremely early this year (as in this week early) and I have no idea what to wear. At my school, everyone dresses casual like they do when they go to school for dances. But I've always missed the Valentine's dances each year for different reasons (like being sick, etc.) so I don't know what people are going to be wearing. And I feel strange asking my friends what they're going to be wearing. Also, I'm going to the dance without a date (fresh out of a breakup) and I was wondering what kind of things I could wear to make myself stand out but not look too dolled-up. Thanks

oh and im a girl so preferably female advice but guys advice works too

Don't feel embarrassed about asking your friends what they'll be wearing to the dance. If they've been before, they'll have the best fashion advice. If it's somewhat casual, you could go with a skirt/shirt getup with a pair of heels or boots (as long as they match of course). If it's like "get dressed up and go all out" kind of dance, wear your prettiest dress!

I may wear the glass slippers; But my hero wears combat boots <3 I love you, Lieutenant

Thanks, I didn't think of your suggestion about the shirt/skirt with boots or heels being an option I love it

I want to recommend flats for shoes as well, they can be casual but also look nice with more dressed up outfits. I usually wear flats when I go to dances. They're comfy as well

Shannon's skirt/shirt idea is fantastic. But, I would definitely advise wearing flats instead of heels. From personal experience, I know that wearing heels to a dance can make your feet hurt, if you plan on being on the floor all night. Flats are much more comfortable and they can still add something special to an outfit.

I'd go with flats personally, so you can dance your butt off, or very comfortable heals/boots. I think nice blouse and skirt would be better than a fancy dress, save that for prom. And who needs a date? Just go with your friends and have fun!
