Will I get charged withdrawing money abroad? -
June 30th 2009, 08:41 PM
Hey guys
Fast replies appreciated, my flight's in a few hours. I'm going to spain, and I was wondering if I can withdraw euros abroad with my visa (debit) card. Or will it cost me? I thought because it's visa it might not, people don't seem to get charged here in the UK, though I can't be sure. Thanks, Deedlit x |

You will very likely be charged for withdrawing so do it in big amounts (Eg. More that $50, charges are between $2 and $5).
If you weren't leaving so soon I would have recommended traveller's cheques. Depends on your card. If it's mastercard then it should. |

Like Robin said, some places charge, some don't. It's just a case of finding the right places when your abroad.

I was abroad for like 5 months and I used my debit card the whole time while I was there. They did charge me everytime I took money out of the ATM. I had to pay for the ATM fee and I also had to pay a conversion fee for the change in currency. At least that's how my bank did it. I do agree that you should take out larger amounts at once, only so you don't get charged as much because you have to take money out more frequently. I hope this helps

You should exchange some money before you go. When I was abroad it charged me for using the atm and a conversion fee.
