iTunes & Debit accounts. -
November 28th 2010, 10:18 PM
If I use my debit account to buy a song on iTunes but I don't have enough money for the song, would it tell me or would it charge me anyway?

I thought that if you attempted to buy anything with a debit card and didn't have the money, it charged you £35? Or, at least that's what my mum told me but she was unsure about iTunes.
I know I have some money on it, I just know it's not a lot and I don't wanna risk buying a song if there is a chance I'm going to get charged loads for it. |

It depends on your account terms really, and whether you have an overdraft. It's nothing to do with iTunes really, it's just like any transaction where you use your card, it depends if the bank lets it through, and if it does, they might just charge you that horribly disproportionate 'account fee' ^^;
Also, I'm moving this to finances, since it'd be more appropriate there. ![]() "My one desire is for peace -- peace for everyone" |

Oops, I didn't realise we had a finances forum
![]() Thanks for the replies, I think I'll just leave it. I don't wanna risk it and possibly land myself a lovely fee for doing it. |

You will get charged for the song but will also be hit with your bank charge which could be anything from £5 to £30.
I would just keep an eye on your spending and your bank balance

I think it depends on your bank and whether or not they'll pay for an overdraft. My bank recently made it so you could have overdraft coverage or not, if you didn't, they'll just deny the transaction.
Anders: That's not evasive.
Isabela: Look, I didn't get where I am by showing my hand, you know? Anders: No, it's not your hand that I've heard you've been showing... |

be careful about going overdrawn.. you CAN go overdrawn on a debit card. my brother just got a £170 bill, plus £35 fine.. and £6 a day fine since he first went overdrawn last month. if you only spend small amounts sometimes they don't get authorisation and just put it through.. even if you don't have the money.
