Saving money. - May 21st 2016, 09:30 PM

So I have two pretty expensive goals: Buy a Mac, and get a tattoo.
I keep spending my damned money!!

I used to have a system where once my money was put into the bank, I didn't have it anymore. I pretended it didn't exist unless it was in the form of cash.

That system got ruined once I started to need to online shop more and once I started ordering out with friends more, etc. Now I use my debit card often and I have depleted my savings.

I am planning on giving my mom some of my money to put in her bank. I trust her very much. I've given her large loans before and she's paid it all back, etc. She's also considered doing the same thing to us - giving us money she doesn't want to spend. Obviously if it's not in my bank account I can't touch it.

But what else can I do to sort of pretend my money doesn't exist and just let it grow and not touch it? Having access to online shopping and my debit card is proving difficult.

Hey Dez,

Have you thought about setting up a separate savings account. Maybe you could give the card to someone else if you're worried that you'll try to use the money. That way you can still do your online shopping with the money that is in your everyday bank account. You could set up a standing order so the money automatically goes into the other account when you get paid. If you get paid a different amount each month you could just call the bank and ask them to transfer whatever amount you can afford each month.

I wish you the best of luck,
