Fixing my finances/rent - July 7th 2016, 08:23 PM

Hey guys,

I currently live at home with my parents and I have always been terrible with money. When I got a full time job my mum asked that I start paying 'housekeeping/rent'. To begin with she asked for a reasonable amount and I paid her monthly and there weren't any issues. We moved into another house and the monthly costs rose a little. For about 6 months my mum didn't ask me for anything more. When my sister got a job she was asked to also start paying her way. She pays less than what I've ever had to pay, she earns the same amount when I first started working, so I see no reason for this. A family member moved in with us and for a while my mum didn't ask for anything extra, eventually she said she needed more from me, which I begrudge paying not because I don't think that my mum should get anything from me, my sister pays half of what I do now. Our relative who lives with us pays nothing. My mum just won't raise the issue. I feel it's unfair that I basically pay for someone else. My mum encourages me to learn to drive, travel and save and yet whilst I'm paying above the odds I can't afford to do that. I had a lot to pay out for and stupidly one month I decide to take out a bank loan. I'm about to make my last payment, so that is some money I will have back each month, but it was due to dentist appointments, needing new glasses and paying my mum more than made me need to take out the loan and whilst I regret it, at the time I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. My mum is someone who is good at telling me what I should do but she doesn't seem to understand why I'm always 'skint'.
I have started cutting my costs a little each month. I have vowed to get out of my overdraft each month and whilst I'm still using it, I am reducing the amount I am using it. I've started buying rolling tobacco, I don't often drink, I don't go out and I don't go out and spend silly money on clothes.

I need to let my mum know that I'm struggling, but I don't see how things are going to change. I doubt she is going to ask anyone else to contribute more and so I'm stuck paying the amount I am and struggling to do the things I want.

Thanks in advance.
