bleaching&dying blue - January 16th 2013, 12:13 PM

So currently my hair is blue-black with brown underneath (i tried to do purple underneath, but it didn't take). I now have a bleaching kit and some electric blue hairdye (the fudge paintbox brand) and I want to bleach the underneath of my hair and dye it blue. I'm doing a strand test on a piece of hair that I cut off to make sure it won't go horribly wrong or anything. Whilst it's still bleaching, I've got a few questions.
1. How much does bleach actually damage hair? the bleach I have is 40vol and I think it's gonna need around 90mins if that helps
2. Has anyone actually used fudge hairdyes? what are your opinions on them? I normally use special effects but a friend recommended fudge.
3. How easy is it to bleach your roots yourself?

I'm sorry you didn't get any replies!
1. Bleach won't completely kill your hair if you only do it once. 40 volume is pretty strong, but as long as you do a deep condition afterward it will be fine.
2. I have never used those products, however I have heard only good things about them.
3. It's pretty easy to bleach your roots, however you need to be careful of how much bleach you use as it is bad for your scalp and can burn.

I'm assuming by now you've dyed your hair already, so how did it turn out?

And here you are living, despite it all.

1. I've bleached my hair from black to blonde twice in my life. I have to use 2 boxes of bleach to get it to the correct blonde. After a while it will really dry out your hair. So once you are done I would recommend getting some deep conditioning conditioner and letting that sit in your hair it'll help a lot.
2. I have not use that brand. I have used the blue manic panic colour and that worked pretty well. But with colours like that you typically need to touch it up every other week. It doesn't stay in long. =/
3. I've had my friend bleach my hair once and I did it the second time myself. It's like dying your hair on your own on any other occasion. It's not too hard.

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.

Re: bleaching&dying blue - January 28th 2013, 09:29 AM

Thanks for the replies. I've done it now and the first time I dyed it blue the ends went a little green, but I'm guessing that's just because I didn't bleach them enough. I used a darker blue the second time and it worked really well, but it fades very quickly. I've had bad results with manic panic and stargazer and used to use special effects when my hair was pink, but fudge worked out cheaper, so I'll probably stick with it
